~Two Weeks Later~

Bygone Island wasn't awake yet, but Kay sure was. She'd left Amy's house early in the morning, just as the sky was beginning to brighten, determined to watch the sunrise. In the past sunsets had always been her favorite, but something felt different this morning. Today felt like the true beginning of the rest of her life – a life without Chaos or mortal danger. A life spent with Sonic and his friends as they would have been without the Eggman Empire destroying everything they held dear. Sure, Eggman was a nuisance, but one they could handle easily in a planned routine.

Surprisingly, she found she could live with routine. At least for now.

The library was closed as she walked past it, but the hill behind it was her destination. As the world grew brighter, she scaled the steep slope until she reached the top, brushing her hands on her dark blue pants. In tandem with returning to Bygone Island, Kay had acquired clothes that she felt suited her tastes better than Amy's for her. She wore a light purple top and shoes, blue pants, gloves, and a purple headband to match. It felt good to show off her sense of style as a Mobian for the first time, having always just accepted what the universe and her friends gave her to wear before now.

Standing atop the hill, looking out over the small town that was now her residence, Kay took in a deep breath, lifting her eyes to the horizon just as the sun peeked over the sea and said hello to the new day.

She let out a contented sigh. This was truly the life she'd always wanted. Right here, right now, was where she wanted to be more than anywhere else in the world or dimensions. She was finally, finally at home.

Kay smiled at the pastel sky. She wondered if perhaps, as time went on, she'd forget the details of the life that had brought her to this moment. But then she shook her head.

She'd remember.

Everything.
