Amelia covered her ears to avoid hearing Veronica's scream. *Should I run away or go back?*

Maybe they were already dead.

Or maybe they weren't. Amelia knew she couldn't just leave them behind.

"Nick?" she cried into the darkness.

No answer. Again she climbed the rubble hill with difficulty and looked into the narrow tunnel.

Absolute darkness.

At first.

Amelia blinked. Was she already hallucinating?

The bright outline of her hand stood out clearly against the dark earth in front of her.

She held them up in the air and moved her fingers. The black, gooey goo of the skeleton covered her knuckles.

Where did this light come from? And what was that scraping sound?

Suddenly, a heavy hand lay on her shoulder from behind.

Amelia shrieked in horror and drove around flailing wildly. Above her, a figure rose up, holding a bright light in his hand.

"Leave me alone," she cried, closing her eyes blinded.

She swung her fists without hitting anything. The light was too bright.

"Amelia," said a deep voice.

She paused and opened her eyes a little. Because of her tears and the sand in her eyes, she could only see the figure blurred. Blinking, she tried to accustom her eyes to the bright light.

Little by little she could see the person better.

Mr. Grey!

In one hand he held a camping lantern. His perfect black suit was wrinkled and stained. His lower lip was trembling with excitement.

"You... you must get out of here," he thrust out. "Where are the others?"

"I don't know," Amelia blurted out. "Dead... I don't know."

"Ohh", he moaned. His shoulders slumped down. "No, no, no."

"There's something down here," Amelia said.

"Quick," Grey interrupted her. "We gotta get outta here."

"But Nick..."

At that moment, the top half of his body shot through the narrow tunnel passage. He clawed his hands into the loose earth as he desperately tried to claw his way out.

"It... it got me!" he cried.

"Help him!" cried Amelia and grabbed Nick's outstretched hand.

Grey put the lantern down and grabbed his other hand. From the ceiling, avalanche-like earth fell down on them. Nick's head was buried under it. Amelia could only see his arms.

"He's gonna choke," yelled Grey.

"That's not his only problem!" growled Amelia.

The next moment Nick's head emerged from the ground with a violent jolt. He choked and struggled convulsively for air.

"We got him," Amelia cried, tears of relief.

Once again, Mr Grey and Amelia pulled with all their might. Suddenly, Nick's body came shooting from the narrow tunnel. All three rolled down the hill and landed roughly on the cement floor.

"Where is it?" cried Amelia. "Where is the mist?"

A deafening roar drowned out her voice. Behind them, a ton of damp earth came loose from the ceiling of the vault. The narrow passageway to the chamber was now completely covered.

"The tunnel is collapsing!" Amelia screamed in panic.
