She was looking at herself in the mirror of their bedroom. Yes, their bedroom. Two months before they officially finished moving in. They had a lot of things to take care of, Cal had dragged her through an uncountable amount of shops to make sure they had everything they needed. A dishwasher, a washing machine, all the electronic devices that could be useful in any moment of the day. He even bought a blender, promising to make her some fresh smoothies once the summer arrived. Which brought his mind into thinking about the hot weather. He had never lived in that city, would the summer had been really hot? Did they need some air conditioning? He bought it, just in case.
They went looking for a crib after her second ultrasound. The baby was fine, growing well but not without making her feel like shit in the morning. The doctor told them that they could know the sex around the fourth month, so on their next appointment. They decided that they would like to know it before the baby was born, they wanted to have all the time left to decide a good name. Thinking about two names would be useless and a loss of time. A name was something so important, it had to be good.
She slowly swiped her thumb on her belly, lost in her thoughts.
"Here you are" said Cal entering the room, his eyes immediately dropped on her hand, worried.
"What's wrong?" he asked concerned.
He didn't know if something was wrong, he didn't know what a pregnant woman could feel, but her touch seemed soft, maybe she was trying to calm some sort of pain.
"I'm showing, look!" she answered happily putting herself on her side in front of the mirror.
His eyes went huge, looking back at her. He slowly approached his girlfriend, looking down on her stomach. It wasn't flat anymore. There was a really small bump that had never been there. Obviously it didn't grow during the night but now he could notice it.
"Looks like our little one is getting bigger and bigger each day" Cal said, slowly ribbing her small bump and leaving a kiss on her lips, making her smile.
"How are you today?" Cal asked.
She had been struggling more with morning sickness in the last week, sometimes it took her even an hour to feel better, but the doctor said it was normal, it also could have been the change of the season, temperature getting a bit warmer and the fact that she needed to slow down a bit.
She had started to work again with her normal shift, her boss told her she could come to work till the beginning of the third trimester, then she should stay home and come back after maternity. If she would still work there.
Cal and Emily, in fact, had been thinking about going back to Boston before the third semester even started, if only it could have been a safe place to stay. Cal still worked for the FBI, he just changed department, so he was still in touch with what was happening in Boston. They knew their colleagues were doing their best to take down the whole organization and everything connected to her family, but they needed more time.
"I'm good, thanks for asking, I didn't have morning sickness today" she smiled.
Cal was so worried about everything she did. He kept asking her if she was fine and he did all in his power to help her with everything. He was so sweet.
"That's great! Would you like to take a walk in the park? It's a bit warmer today so it should be good" he suggested.
The doctor told her to take a walk as often as she could, obviously not too much, but to help her body to be strong enough. She had always tried to be fit: running, boxing, martial arts and gym were her best friends, but obviously now she could just stick to walking fast, she didn't want to do anything that could hurt the baby.
