Tuesday, December 7th

Kara whines when she hears the alarm make the beeping sound. It's the second day of school for this week.

Lena chuckles when she hears Kara whine.

Kara opens her eyes and sees Lena sitting on her guest bed with a marker in her hand.

'Seriously, you're up again this early?' Kara whispers with a groggy morning voice.

'Yeah, this jet lag is getting less but it's still a bit here.'

'How long have you been awake?'

'Just for an hour. I have been reading a little and other things.' Lena answers.

'What other things?' Kara asks out of curiosity.

'Just... eehm.. in my journal.' Lena says while getting uncomfortable. 'I'm gonna get dressed.' Lena says as she grabs her clothes and rushes off to the bathroom.

One hour later the two girls got ready and are waiting for the bus to school. The bus is once again late. Lena and Kara don't have anything to talk about so they wait in awkward silence.

Once arriving at school the girls start off with the lesson science.

'Students, students!' The teacher says trying to get the attention.

'Welcome to science today. I know we have some exchange students with us from Ireland. We were supposed to meet last week but unfortunately, I had the flu.' The class stays completely silent during the talking of the teacher.

'My name is Mrs. Mandington. I'm a teacher in science and biology but for this year mostly science. I would really like it if the exchange students can introduce themselves. Just tell your name, where you're from, your age, hobbies, and something you like here.'

Lena knows from the pointing of the teacher she is up first. 'Well hi, I'm Lena Luthor 18 years old and I'm from Dublin. I love to read.' Lena tells.

'Nice to meet you, Lena. You forgot to mention something you like here. Can you tell me that?'

Lena nods although she really knows nothing to think of. 'Well... I... uhh- like the library.'

'Ahh.. that's nice to hear. The library is very beautiful here indeed.'

Lena breaths in some air. Relieved she only embarrassed herself for a bit.

After the introductions, Mrs. Mandington continues talking. 'Although I would really like to just get started with science I have to give everyone back the tests from a few weeks ago. This subject had been finished with an average C.'

Mrs. Mandington walks through the class to deliver the grades. There is chatting around the students who already received their grades.

Kara bends over to Lena. 'I'm failing science pretty hard but I studied so hard I must have gotten a C or even a B.'

A piece of paper falls onto Kara's desk. The eyes of both of the girls are fixed on the paper.

'Seriously? An F?!' Kara whispers as Lena is looking with Kara on the paper.

Kara gets very silent and bites her lip not to cry. She truly studied hard for this. Lena takes all the courage she has and puts her hand on Kara. Kara is truly surprised about Lena's move.

Luckily the lesson flies by very quickly. The next two hours are study hours. This is why Kara and Lena search for a place to sit in school.

Kara shows Lena one of the homerooms there are multiple little study rooms equipped for one, two, or four students at once. This way students can study alone or in groups in soundproof rooms.

Kara and Lena sit down in a study cabin for two persons. Kara throws her test on the table and a tear escapes her eyes. She buries her face in her hands.

Lena doesn't really know what to say so again she puts her hand on Kara's shoulder.

'You don't know what this means for me.' Kara snaps.

'Well then tell me. What does it mean?'

Kara looks at Lena with her blue eyes. Brighter and shinier than ever because she just cried.

'I will have to do this school year over. That way I won't be with my friends. And I will disappoint Eliza. And my sister. The worst part is the fact that Alex wants to go to college to earn her degree to be a scientist.' Kara rambles.

'Can't Alex help you?'

'No! That's the most frustrating part. She tried helping me multiple times but I just can't understand it. And then it frustrates me and after that, it frustrates her. We always end up having a fight.'

'Well... then I'll help you.' Lena says.

'No offense but are you good at science?'

'Yeah, I have an average of an A.'

'Omg yes, I would love that Lena. Thank you!' Kara yells. She wants to embrace Lena in a hug but remembers just in time what Lena told her.

Lena smiles. 'No problem. And you can give me a hug if you want. Just be gentle.'

'Are you sure?'

'Yes, certainly.' Lena says.

Kara and Lena lean in to hug. they stay in the hug for about 15 seconds. Without admitting it out loud Lena actually likes the hug. It feels warm.

'So what about you?' Kara asks.

'What about me?'

'You don't like it here? Do you?'

Lena looks down at the ground. 'No, not really.'

'Lena, please look at me. Is there something I can do about it? I really want to make this a good stay for you.'

'I don't think so. It just feels weird here. I want to go home.'

Kara looks to Lena sad. 'Is it me?'

'To be honest, it was you at the start. And it's still a bit. But at the moment I like you more than all other things around here.'

'Well, I'll take the compliment. And if there's anything I can do to make your stay even a bit better just tell me.'

'Thanks, Kara, I will. But now let's answer the question of the day.' Lena says as she opens the booklet with the questions.

'What is the best concert you've ever been to?'

'NSYNC!' Kara cheers.

'Really you went to NSYNC? That's so cool!'

'Yeah, Alex took me. I only knew a few songs back then but it was amazing. What was yours?' Kara says.

'Lorde. Definitely. Her music is amazing and she's a strong woman. I look up at her.'

'Hmm... I don't know her music. Maybe I will listen to it sometimes.' Kara says.

Lena gets all excited. 'Maybe now? I could turn on her discography. And I will be thrilled to let you listen to it.'

Kara chuckles. 'Sure.'
