You were the manager for Aoba Johsai's boys' volleyball team, only a first year. You had originally been really good at basketball. You pulled through with your best friend, Ichika Yamamoto, on the court with you since you were 6. You both were almost unstoppable, and had been well known in the basketball community in middle school. Basketball was never the same if she wasn't there with you. You were going to go to Seijoh with her and continue to play basketball, but she got into a terrible car accident a week before school started and passed away due to injury the next day. You were shocked when you found out, you went to her funeral and paid respects as her teammate, best friend, partner in crime, and soul sister. It hurt to know that she wouldn't be there, you started to breakdown whenever you played basketball. All the memories would flood back and hit 10x harder than they did the time before, you could see her on the court with you but she wasn't there when you tried to pass the ball to her or hug her.

So you never bothered to touch a basketball or play, instead you decided to become manager for the boys' volleyball team. They were a fun group, a little chaotic at times but they knew when to get serious. You loved the boys, they treated you like one of them and they were your best friends. Of course, they could never replace Ichika, but you felt loved and they stitched up part of your broken heart.

Each had an interesting character of their own, especially Kunimi. You were very fond of the boy, always wondered what was going through his mind and how he was thinking. You maybe even fell for the boy, but never brought yourself to believe it.

It was finally the end of the school day, you remembered how the boys' were going to do some running around the area surrounding the school for the first 10 minutes of the 2 hour practice so nobody was there when you got there. You went to go change into your tracksuit pants and white t-shirt, when you came out you saw that the basketball court was open and the balls were still there. You didn't know what it was, but something was dragging you towards the court. You tied up your hair (Or not, depending on your hair length) and picked up a ball from the court. Since you had ten minutes to spare, you decided to grab your headphones and phone from your bag and plugged them in. You put the earphones into your ears and put the phone in your pocket, not before turning on some upbeat music. You started dribbling the ball slightly, then started dribbling it between your legs. After a few minutes, you picked up the pace and started moving around the court as if it was you against a whole team on your own. You tuned out every possible thing around you, only focusing on the court under your feet. That's when it all came flooding back to you...

The last game you ever played with Ichika...

**FLASHBACK**

Ichika was dribbling the ball that had been passed by a teammate moments before, she dodged a tall forward and swiftly passed the ball to you. You caught it, as if she had used a psychic connection with you to warn you she was about to pass the ball. You dribbled forward, being marked by two people. You swirled around, bringing the ball under your legs and back to your hands in front of you. You ran forward with the ball bouncing beside you. Someone else had come in front of you to stop you, but then you jerked right. They jerked right too, thinking you were going to flow that way but that was just a diversion. You quickly moved left in one fast motion and got to the basket. You jumped, bringing the ball under your legs then dunking it with a hard slam. You smiled as you landed, then turned around.

**END OF FLASHBACK**

You turned around excitedly, remembering how you saw your best friend's face when you scored the game winning point. You remember seeing her face lit up with happiness and accomplishment, along with a proud look on her face. But that's when you snapped out of it, then you saw the empty court. You looked down and instead of seeing your middle school jersey with the number 5 on it, you saw your teal tracksuit pants and your white T-shirt. You frowned, tears threatening your eyes. You felt weak all of the sudden, your hands started shaking uncontrollably and you couldn't hear anything clearly. You ripped the headphones out of your ears and tossed them (along with your phone) onto the court. You fell to your knees and slammed your head onto the court floor. You felt tears drip from your eyes, but no sobs were coming out of your mouth. You just felt numb, couldn't even get yourself to release a cry you've been holding in for months now.

You were in deep thought when you felt a hand on your back, you sat up and saw Kunimi with Kindaichi there. Kunimi had his hand on your back and was right next to you and Kindaichi was crouched in front of you.

"L/N-san? What's wrong?" Kunimi softly asked while frowning a little, but his facial expression was softened. You looked at him, before slowly moving towards him and wrapping your arms around his waist, then stuffing your head into his chest.

"I'm s-sorry" you whispered, your voice cracking a little as you spoke. He sighed and stroked your hair.

"I'm going to go get my shoes on in the club room, I'll tell Oikawa and Iwaizumi you're here with L/N-san" Kindaichi spoke up, before you heard his feet running against the court floors.

You sighed, calming down a little before the tears stopped flowing down your face.

"What's wrong?" He softly asked again.

"I..." you couldn't form the words.

"You know, we all saw you playing basketball just now. You're pretty good. You looked excited and had a huge smile plastered to your face which was pretty rare for us to see. Then it disappeared as soon as you turned around." you looked down with guilt. Yeah, nobody has really seen you smile when you got to high school. The only person who could make you happy was her. "Are you ok?"

Those words hit you like a train. Were you ok? In all honesty, no. Did you want the boys knowing that and having another weight on their shoulders? No. But at that moment, all you wanted to do was pour your heart out to Kunimi. All you wanted to do was sob until you were dying of dehydration, you wanted him to engulf you in a hug and tell you that he was going to be there. You didn't know what came over you, but at that moment the word "Yes" refused to roll off your tongue.

"No..." you whispered, burying your head deeper into his chest. He nodded and pulled you in closer. Before the guys came in, he stood up pulling you up with him. You stumbled on your feet a little bit but soon got balanced and made your way to the bleachers, him behind with your phone and headphones. Once you sat down, Kunimi flashed a rare smile at you and ran to go get on his volleyball shoes. You took out your phone and went to your voicemails. You went to the voicemail she sent a few hours before the crash. She had been on a road trip and was coming back home when the crash happened.

"Heyyyyy bitch, the road trip is great! My sisters have been extremely noisy and shit but other than that, it's been fun. I know you're probably doing conditioning or training right now, sorry for calling, but we're passing through mountains which won't have service for a while so I wanted to call just so you're not worrying about me haha. Anyways, have fun and I'll see you at home! DON'T PUSH YOURSELF TOO HARD!! Luv youuu" Then the call ended. You smiled, thinking about all the great memories you guys had. When you put the phone back in your bag, You looked up to see the boys looking at you with shocked expressions on their faces. You turn your gaze to Kunimi in the back, who smiles at you. You smiled at him, then turned your gaze back to the whole group.

"Hey boys, ready for practice today?" you beamed.
