PS: watch the video I put up above :)

Ok so I feel the need to make a chapter like this just to educate those who do it play actual volleyball but watch haikyu.

I know it may be a little different in other places but these are simple terms that I just feel like I need to talk about.

It's not Toss, it's Set

It's not Chance Ball, it's Free ball or you would call out "Free" in a game

It's called both a Spike or Hit (either term works, preferably Hit tho)

Being the Ace of the team is a title, not a position. Aces aren't even a real/used /popular term, it's just a title for the best and most reliable player on the team. But it is NOT an open term people use

Tempo isn't a thing, Tempo's don't exist unless it's for serving.

Serving Tempo is a completely different thing: Serving tempo 1 and 2.

Serving tempo 1: Regular rainbow shaped serve

Serving tempo 2: flat, clean, fast serve that barely clips the net

Libero can be pronounced in MANY different ways:

Lee-burro (How they pronounce it in Haikyu)
Luh-bear-o
La-bear-o
Li-bear-o

Receives are also called "Digs" or "digging the ball up"

In volleyball, they choose height over everything else. If your short (like hinata) then the chance of you playing front row is 0% no matter how good you are or how high you can jump. Haikyu is really unrealistic in that term of height because it's not true. I love seeing people getting encouraged to play front row as a short volleyball player after watching haikyu but at the same time it disappoints me how Furadate made it seem like that's how volleyball works.

I'm 5'3, I'm one of the highest jumpers in my club for my age group and the group above me. I hit pretty well (not above average or bad, just well) and I'm an above average Libero. However nomatter how much I try there's never going to be a day where I play front row in a practice game, game, tournament, etc. the only reason I'm a Libero is not because I can pass and I enjoy it but because I was forced to for my height. It's frustrating but it's true whether you agree or not.

Pinch server isn't a position, it's an opportunity that doesn't happen often in Real life volleyball.

Setters: control the front of the court, the hardest position along side Libero. They always get the 2nd ball and are in charge of setting the ball for someone to hit. If they mess up or can't set well then the whole teams performance is going to go downhill from there. They should know what kind of sets the hitters like or prefer, and also how their doing that day and whether it's risky to keep setting them or not.

Libero: runs the back of the court. They touch the ball second to the setters amount however the position is just as difficult. They do not hit but in case of an out of system play (setter take first ball or can't get to the ball) then they set up the ball for someone to hit. They are the best passers on the team and if they aren't passing well then there's no point in having them on the court. Without a good dig, there's no start.

Outside hitter (left side hitter): next hardest position aside from the Libero and Setter. They are an all round player (needs to pass well, Hit well, block well, and be loud) they need to have communication and they move around a lot. They often play both front and back row, but always go back to pass when it's serve receive (the opponents serve). Yes you even go back to pass if your front row.

Middle blocker: they are the second to last hardest position, or the second easiest. They mostly block and occasionally hit. They never, I mean NEVER cross the ten foot line. They always stick up front and they don't pass. No offense but most middle blockers are TERRIBLE passers (and it's a fact that nobody can deny)

Opposite hitter (right side): they block a lot, sometimes hit. Rarely pass. Nothing much to them. They do have to be able to block tho since they are across from the opposing teams Outside hitter (who usually gets most of the sets). So blocking and learning how to stabilize the block for when the middle comes to block is important.

So that's most of the stuff y'all needed to know. If I think of anything else then I'll add it. If y'all have opinions of what I wrote then I'm open for any comments whether it's agreeing, disagreeing, stories, etc.

Anyways, have a good night/day, stay healthy, get some sleep, eat something, take care of yourselves :)

Luv y'all 😘✌️
