Liz's POV...

It was my first day at work and I was super excited! Finally my first real job. It wasn't what I had hoped for but I'd be ungrateful to complain about it, especially after experiencing how hard it was for me to get a job. Sure I'd hoped I'd be a diplomat working for some NGO or the United Nations, but I still got to travel and if what Edna had told me was true then I'd be traveling all the same.

Plus this job came with its own benefits. Not only were they so kind to pay Mida and mine's flight tickets, they also got us an apartment to stay in. Let's not forget that they gave me a month to get to work. Mida needed to finalize her things there and she was thinking of applying and transferring her units to Perth Uni, which was a walking distance away from where we were staying. With her savings and me chipping in, we would meet the costs of her tuition so she'd still be able to finish and graduate.

Things with her family weren't great. She had cut ties off with everyone except her twin brother, Hassan. He was the only one who understood where she was coming from. Maybe it was a twin thing, I don't know. I sometimes wish I had a twin though. I mean even though I'm an only child, we've always been close to my maternal side of the family. In fact my mother stays in the same place as one of my aunt's, a walking distance from where my grandparents stay. So my cousins have always been like my siblings. But I see them with their siblings, how close their bonds are, and I can't help but wish for the same...

I had set up my alarm to ring two hours. If you have thick 4c hair, you know how hard it is to make it presentable. Plus, I wanted enough time to calm my nerves and prep myself psychologically.

I was so nervous though that I didn't even get a wink the previous night. I kept coming up with scenarios, analyzing if things could go bad or good. Dee was ever so helpful, God bless her soul, calling just before I slept to give me a pep talk and help calm me down.

When my alarm clock rang at six a. m, I was already awake. I turned it off, got up and made my bed before heading to the one bathroom in our apartment. Mida had already woken up to pray at five a. m, something she had stopped doing a few months back but I guess she was going back to her religious path.

"Hey Lizza.." she greeted from the kitchen when she had me opening my bedroom door.
"Hey lovely, let me just get ready then I'll join you in a few..." I greeted back, going into the bathroom and closed the door when she said sure.

I took my time, calming my nerves as I washed my body. Once I was done, I went and prepped myself, donning my khaki coloured chiq official pants, pairing it with a black blouse, leaving the two top buttons undone, showing just the right amount of skin, though my double d cup boobs made it seem like my top was tight and black flats. I combed my hair back, tying the kinky curls into a bun, leaving the puffy ends free. Wearing my thick lensed glasses and applying my nude lip gloss, I was set. My black leather hand bag was already packed and ready in the living room.

Looking at myself through the mirror one last time, I saw that I was just right, then I went to join Mida in the kitchen where she had already prepared a cup of tea masala and some pancakes for us.

"Thanks." I told her once I was seated on one of the kitchen stools and she had passed me my cup of tea and a plate of pancakes. I sprayed vanilla whip cream on top, just how I liked it. And let me tell you, as soon as the first bite landed on my tongue, I moaned so loud at how sweet the damn pancakes were.

"Yaani waeza kufanya mtu afikirie si chakula wakula lakini wafanya mambo mengine..." Mida says in swahili( You can make someone think it's not food you are eating instead you are doing something else..)
