Morgan's POV......
I sat in my office taking a break after I was done reviewing some documents that needed my signature. Loosening up my tie, I unbuttoned the two top buttons of my shirt and my cufflinks, folding the sleeves of my shirt so as to show my lower arms.
Leaning on my chair, my mind instantly went back to my encounter with Elise just a few hours ago. What were the odds that she would have applied much less gotten the job in my company. I admit that I had forwarded her CV to Edna after Dee had requested I help her out. But I didn't think Elise would actually apply. I could only come up with two possibilities for her actually applying. 1. Was she didn't know this was my company.
2. She had dropped her pride and had no other choice than to apply for a job here.
My money was on the former because having known her for a short time I knew she was extremely prideful and her hatred which I had no idea where it came from, would not allow her to stand my presence.I had met her almost at the same time I met Dee. Dee had introduced us and back then I could tell she had trust issues. It was during Dee and Alex's wedding that we actually talked. I had instantly been drawn to her calm and mysterious demeanor. She did have a wild side though and I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of it that night.
Fuck! Just thinking about her freaky she was in bed got me instantly hard. In fact she was the best I had had. And I wasn't ashamed to say it.
That night we had both been intoxicated. We had gone to the hospital when Dee gave birth to my god children but came back to the house after visiting them. I had found her walking on the beach and with the bottle I had brought, we started drinking and talking. The vibe was just right. She was however a light weight and apparently when she got tipsy she got courageous. Next thing I knew, we were back in my room, making out like crazy. Clothes came off and we got into it. What I hadn't known was that she was a virgin and our intoxicated state didn't make me register that I had to ask her if it was okay. I had gotten a taste of the chocolate and I didn't want to let it go. It was addictive. However for a virgin she was extremely freaky and had a stamina to match mine.
The next morning I wanted more. However, she had already left me. A first for me since I was always the one to leave my one night stands. She didn't even bother to leave a note. I shrugged it off and went to look for her so I could ask if we could continue to mess around while we were there.
But luck wasn't on my side as she ignored me the whole time. My ego hurt, I decided to poke her and tease her just to get her attention but that only seemed to irritate her and her hatred towards me grew. To date I didn't know what I ever did to deserve her cold shoulder.
But now that she was here, I wanted to get to the bottom of it all. Plus it wouldn't hurt to get a taste of her. And it was just my luck that I was in need of an assistant, with Winn on maternity leave.
I took my land-line and called Edna to my office. She came in a few minutes later and took a seat across from me.
"Edna, just the person I wanted to see." I greeted, throwing my signature smile that I knew was hard to resist. Although I was the boss, Edna rarely bent the rules for anyone. Me included. It was one of the reasons I was glad I hired her. And I needed to charm her to get what I wanted.
" As much as I would like to be flattered I know you want something from me. And I'm guessing from the smile, I won't like it." She said with a sigh.
I laughed nervously at her statement and she rose one of her perfectly shaped brows in question. Outside of work, I'd like to think that Edna and I were good friends. Especially during these last two months with Poppy's little girl, Meg. And let me tell you, things haven't been a bed of roses even though Meg is merely six years of age.
Don't get me wrong, she was an adorable girl. She was an exact copy of Poppy except for her caramel skin that she got from her dad Sam, who happened to be mixed. She had blonde curls and hazel eyes which were also her dad's. Her chubby round face with dimpled rosy cheeks, small button nose and tiny pink lips were all features of Poppy. Even her short chubby stature she got from her mom. She was basically a mixed version of her mum at that age and I had no doubt she would cause me sleepless nights when she grew up. I just hoped she wouldn't be too wild like her mother.
She was a good girl, very sweet and disciplined. Nana fell in love with her almost immediately she met her. Poppy did a good job with her. And I was happy that at least Poppy used the allowance I always put in her account to take care of her because she seemed to have never lacked a thing. My Nana had come to live with us when she found out to help take care of Meg. And I'm sure once summer is over, and Meg starts school, she'll still be around.
My relationship with Meg was slowly developing. She was a bit distant at first, barely saying anything to me except when she needed something. I didn't blame her though, I mean she only knew of me through the stories her mum told her of me and the pictures she showed her. But as the days went by, she became more bubbly and talkative. And I made sure I spent most of my free time with her. Which meant my extra curricula activities had to take a break for a bit. She was still a bit sad though and I knew she missed her mum. We had flown Poppy's body to Australia and I had her buried in our ranch next to my grandfather. It was her request that she be buried where her daughter could be able to go talk to her in the event that she died young. It was like she knew. Maybe loosing Sam so early had caused her to make such a decision.
Before Meg, Edna and I kept our relationship professional, except for a few family events she invited me to, like her daughter Sunny and son Kai's birthdays every year since she started working for me. She only invited those she felt comfortable with at work, who were like five people excluding me. I remember when I got the first invite, I had felt so honored that she wasn't intimidated by my position as her boss. Though if I'm being honest, I don't think anyone ever intimidated her. Not even her husband Zain, who was previously a commander of the navy seal team for the USA Navy. And let me tell you, Zain was pretty intimidating.
But our friendship went to the next level when Meg arrived. Edna teamed up with my Nana and Winn to help me settle Meg in. She helped enroll her to the same school that She and Winn had taken their kids to. Honestly I couldn't even begin to tell you the extend of all the things she's done and how grateful I was towards her for it.
*********
"When have I ever lied to you?" I asked her.
"Never. You do however have very peculiar ways of getting your way. I know you like the back of my hand Morgan." she replied smuggly and I hated how true that statement was. We might have not been close but Edna had a way of reading people and knowing what your true intentions were. I wanted to blame her husband 's skills imprinting on her. But that would be unfair and sexist."Fine. I want to discuss Miss Mbula." I said giving in with a sigh.
"Aaaah. I h as already figured that you two might have a past. An escapade I'm guessing?"
"Can anything ever get past you? No honestly...." I asked genuinely.
"Rarely. It's one of my most valuable assets as a HR. Now how can I exactly help you?" she asked getting straight to the point.
Did I mention how much I loved how straight forward she was?
"Well, I was wondering if she could fill in for Winn in the meantime as my PA? The PR department can survive for a few more months without an assistant, Antony has handled it quite well for the last year." I explained."Well this is your company so even if I don't agree with your decision, you can still overrule me." she said with a shrug.
"So that's a yes?" I asked her.
"It can be whatever you want it to be. I don't know what your intentions are and I won't dive into them. Just make sure you don't play with her or else you'll have me to deal with too." She said fiercely.
"I see she's grown on you too. I give you my word I won't. I just need to get to the bottom of something and I can only do so with her under my watch." I told her as truthfully as I could.
"Okay. I will let her know of the changes." She said. "If that's all, I'd like to get back to my office." She added standing up.
"Of course." I said with a genuine smile.
"Oh and thank you Edna." I added right before she left.
"Of course." she said curtly then left the office.Leaving me excited of what was to come. This was about to become a wonderful adventure. I couldn't remember the last time I was this excited and that just added to the anticipation.
