Mackenzie's POV
God I wished this girl would shut the fuck up. After Heather had given me a hug, she wouldn't stop talking about the Talent Show. For crying out loud it was only the first day of school. I tried to listen to what she was saying but found myself zoning out. In all honesty, I was getting pretty tired of this whole performance thing. It was more of showing off than actual singing. I tried to fight the urge to roll my eyes when she said something about me coming on stage shirtless. I just faked a laugh and continued smiling through this awful conversation. I looked behind Heather and saw Sarai O'Neil and her friend Miranda Casity walking by laughing. I could still remember the amount of force from her punch back in sophomore year. I was being a dick I will admit but a fucking punch to the gut just because I called her a fatass is a little much.
I had to be taken to the hospital to check if there were any broken bones. Luckily it was just a hairline fracture, but the fact that she could do that just from one punch pissed me off but also left me impressed. However, I didn't confront her again after that for fear of ruining my reputation by picking a fight with her. I would never hear the end of it from Heather or my friends if I did that. I must have been zoning out for a while now because Heather began snapping her fingers in my face.
"Hellloo did you hear anything I said."
I blinked twice and gave the best smile I could.
"Sorry I'm just a bit tired I guess. Could you repeat the last part please?"
She nearly melted by my words and giggled.
"Oh that's OK sweety. I was just asking when you'd like to start practicing?" She finished her sentence with a high pitched giggle. I really didn't want to talk about this right now. Thankfully my phone rang before I could answer her question. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was my dad.
"Sorry I have to go. I'll talk to you later."
I walked away and answered the call.
"Hey dad."
"Hey Mackenzie could you come home to watch your sister I need to take go finish off an art piece at the studio."
I frowned. Whenever he said that he was usually gone for a week or two. Him and my mother were well known artists. Because of this they travel a lot and are barely home. At the moment, my mom was in Japan showing off her latest piece.
"I'll be there in 8 minutes." I pushed the end call button and headed for my car. I sped home, not wanting my dad to leave my little sister alone if I took too long like last time. I drove up the driveway and was greeted by my dad standing outside the door.
'Bastard couldn't even wait until I got inside the house.' Keeping my thoughts to myself, I got out of the car and walked over to him.
"Mackenzie you finally made it. Your sister is inside coloring. There's money on the counter if you need anything."
And with that he walked to his car and drove off. Mentally cursing, I walked inside. My 6 year-old sister was sitting on the couch coloring in her book. When she spotted me, she ran towards where I was standing and gave me a hug. Her green eyes twinkling with happiness just from seeing me.
"I missed you so much Kenzie!"
"I missed you too Layla. You hungry?"
She rapidly nodded her head and I couldn't help but chuckle. I made my way towards the kitchen, grabbed the house phone, and ordered a pizza. I didn't really feel like cooking today. My parents insisted on hiring a maid but I refused the offer. I would much rather take care of Layla on my own than to have some stranger do it. Within 20 minutes the pizza arrived. I sat my sister down at the table and served her a slice. After serving my own two slices, I sat down. Just when I was about to take a bite out of my pizza my phone rang. I groand and looked at the screen, seeing that it was Heather. 'Why can't this girl just leave me the fuck alone for one day!' I said to myself. Knowing that she would just keep calling if I didn't pick up now, I answered the call, not even bothering to say hello.
"Heeyyy sweety what's up?"
I was really getting annoyed with that fucking nickname she gave me. I mouthed to my sister that I'd be right back. She nodded and continued eating. I felt bad for leaving her there but I didn't want her to see the looks on my face whenever Heather spoke. I walked upstairs to my room and responded to her question.
"I'm actually eating right now. Is there anything wrong."
"Omg I'm so sorry I didn't know you were eating. I just wanted to know if you wanted to start practicing tomorrow at your house?"
Shit I forgot she had asked that before I left.
"Well I guess tomorrow would be fine." Well there goes my afternoon. I would rather not have them come here, specifically Heather. For some reason, Layla despises her. I would have to try to tell Layla to behave while I drive her to school tomorrow.
"Oh thank you so much sweety." She then began talking about her day and how Sarai insulted her for no reason, which I knew was bullshit. Heather is always the one who starts the problems between them. She proceeded with insults by calling her words like ugly, fat, cow, piggy, waste of air, and so on. I kinda felt bad for Sarai. She seems to always have to deal with this every single day. Even I get a break from Heather once in a while. After a while of her constant ranting, I looked at the time on my phone and saw that it was almost 9.
"Hey Heather I'm really sorry but I have to go. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"Oh alright. Just remember the plan ok."
I furrowed my brows in confusion. What plan was she talking about? I figured it was about meeting up in my house for practice.
"OK I'll remember."
"Bye!"
I hung up as soon as she said bye. I went downstairs to the kitchen to see that no one was there. Layla must've went to her room. Sure enough when I went to her room she was there sleeping. I walked up to her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Then I made my way to the bathroom. After taking a shower, I put on my boxers and a T-shirt and went straight to bed.
Heather's POV
Sarai was so going to pay for humiliating me today. Ever since her little lie about me having a disease, the boy I was with hasn't texted me. Honestly I'm kinda glad because I forgot his name. Anyway, I'm glad Mackenzie is willing to help me out with this. I knew he liked me. I put my hair in a tight bun and went to sleep, smirking at the events that were soon to occur tomorrow,
