Sarai's POVI couldn't help but smile as the last bell rang. I had to stop the urge from jumping out of my seat and bolting out of the building, knowing that I'd never hear the end of it from Miranda for leaving her behind. I watched as she slowly grabbed her things. She's practically torturing me!
"Would you hurry it up I wanna go home!" She glared at me and went slower than she all ready was. I stared for a couple of seconds and walked out.
"Sarai wait I'm sorry!" She yelled after me with her books in hand. I had to stiffle a laugh from coming out as I stopped walking.
"Next time hurry up then." She nodded her head and started walking, trying to keep up with my pace. I was so happy to finally leave school that I began speed walking. I could already feel the comfort of my bed beneath me. My happines was short lived as I saw Heather and her group walking my way. My eye slightly twitched as a migraine made it's way into my brain. I prayed that she wouldn't approach me. I really didn't want to deal with her bullshit again.
My prayers were answered when I saw her walk up to Mackenzie Stryder, another member of the popular club. He was talking to his friends when she hugged him from behind. He had a look of slight annoyance but quickly changed it to that fake smile of his. Oh how I hated him so. His smiles are only masks that cover up his true emotions. He pretends to be the good guy when he really isn't. I know this from experience. One day during sophomore year, Miranda and I were walking to our next class when she accidentally bumped into Mackenzie, causing all his books to fall. She said sorry and bent down to help him get his books. His response was slapping her hand away and calling her a clumsy, stupid bitch. I was about to punch this guy in the fucking throat when Miranda's hand grabbed my shoulder.
She looked at me with sadness in her eyes and motioned me to walk away. I turned around to walk when I heard him say the one word that really gets me in a mood for murder. 'Fatass'. Once I heard that I turned around and punched him square in the gut. He fell to the floor grabbing his stomach in pain. I smirked and watched as people ran up to him to try and help him stand. I simply turned around and walked back to Miranda, shock evident on her face. Ever since then he has never fucked with us and I made sure of it. As I walked past I heard Heather mention the big Talent Show that's happening in October.
"Its only the first day back and they're already talking about killing our ears with that screech she calls a voice."
"Maybe they're going to tell us early so we have time to get our coffins ready."
I laughed hysterically at Miranda's witty comment. The big 'Talent Show' was nothing more than a contest that seperates the popular kids from the regulars. Every year is the same thing; singing. Mackenzie and Heather always team up with their group to enter, and every time they win. I'm not gonna lie, he can sing. But I feel like its a mixture of his voice and his looks. His piercing green eyes always looking towards the audience, mainly the girls, and his dark hair combed perfectly. He was honestly good looking, but his true personality ruined it. Him and Heather did the same thing. She mainly uses the art of sex appeal to hypnotize the audience into thinking that she is actually singing, when in reality she is only talking with a slight tune. It made me shudder in disgust just thinking about it. Miranda saw the look on my face and raised an eyebrow.
"What's wrong? Does your stomach hurt or something?" I looked at her and smiled slightly.
"No I'm fine. Just thinking about what the 'alpha's of the school' have in store for us in October." She giggled as we made our way out of school.
"Hey is it alright if I walk you home. I don't feel like going back to boredom back at my house."
I simply nodded my head. When we made it to my building, we said goodbye and went out separate ways. I jogged up the stairs to the third floor, panting slightly. I made sure to take off the sweater before I walked inside. I was greeted by a warm hug from my mother.
"How was your day sweety?"
"It was alright. Is Derek still out?" The smile that was on her face faded away as she nodded her head. Derek, my older brother was a drunk who drowned all his sorrows in alcohol and partying. It really puts a strain on my mother as I help her get through it. Knowing that I should change the subject, I tell her about my day while ignoring the little confrontation with Heather. I never told her about problems at school because I knew it would only make her have two people to worry about.
When I finished, the smile that had left her face was back, making me glad. I gave her a kiss on the cheek and went to my room to change into some sweats. I made my way to the kitchen and noticed the pots on the stove. I grabbed a bowl and began scooping up some rice with beans and meat. Looking at the amount that I had subconsciously taken made me sad. It wasn't a large portion, but i knew it was more than was needed. I took my food and walked to my room, making sure my mom didn't see the amount that I had taken. She wants me to eat better and less, but the ways in which she says it just end up sounding like insults. I closed my door and turned on my computer.
I typed in the show that I want to see on Netflix and plop down onto my bed. Thoughts of the rest of the week start filling my head, making me groan in discomfort. I always have the habit of thinking ahead, which is helpful sometimes but now it was just an annoyance. Finishing up my food, I head over to the bathroom to take a shower and brush my teeth. I head over to my mom's room and say goodnight. She looks at the time and gives me a shocked look.
"Its only 8!"
"I had a long day and I really just want to go to sleep." She smiles at me while nodding and gives me a hug. I return the hug, but feel guilty for lying to her. I was actually going to stay up a while to see if my brother will come home. Usually when he comes home from a night of binge drinking, he tends to leave a mess which I choose to clean up so my mother doesn't have to. Its a nuisance but I do it anyway. A couple hours pass and it is nearly 12.
My eyes start to droop but suddenly snap open to the sound of banging on the door. I run over to it to see who it is. Its none other than my brother Derek, wobbling from side to side and smelling like a bar and weed. I grab onto his arm and pull him inside. I closed the door quietly and turned around to see him about to fall. I stood in front of him, trying to hold him up. Vomit began to fall from his mouth and onto the floor. His black hair mixed in with my dark brown hair as I dragged him to his room. I gently put him onto his bed and put a bucket near his face to make sure he didn't vomit as much on the floor. A sigh of exhaustion escaped my lips and I walked over to the kitchen to clean up the little bit of puke still on the floor. After I was finished, I look at the time and saw that it was 1 in the morning. At least it didn't take as long as the other times when he's come home drunk. I crawled into bed and let sleep overtake me.
*~Hey you guys thanks for reading. The picture above is what Mackenzie looks like. Also Sarai is curvy but she is also chubby. So she has big arms and big hips and a little bit of a muffin top, yet barely visible through her shirts. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the story and I'll try to get the next chapter up ASAP :)
