Sarai's POV

My eyes fluttered open to see a bright light in front of my face.  It appeared that I was on a bed. I looked around to see where I was, remembering my surroundings. I was in the nurse's office. Hearing a noise, I looked to my left to see who was coming. I was surprised to see Mackenzie walk in. He looked towards me, a big smile forming on his face.

"Finally you're awake! You had me really worried there."

I attempted to respond, but my throat was so dry that I couldn't speak. Noticing my struggle, he handed me a cup of water that was on the table next to the bed. I quickly took the cup and gulped the water down.

"Thank you."

"No problem" He said with a smile. I returned it as I reached over to place the cup back on the table. My eyes widened when I saw that I wasn't wearing my sweater. I searched the room, spotting it on a chair on the other side of the room. Nearly jumping out of the bed, I ran and grabbed my sweater to cover my arms. As soon as I stopped in front of the chair, I could feel myself becoming dizzy again. Before I could fall over, Mackenzie rushed over to catch me, carry me over to the bed and gently sat me down.

"Are you insane! You could've fainted again and really hurt yourself this time!"

Instead of responding, I tried putting my sweater back on only to be stopped by his hand grabbing my wrist. He looked me straight in the eyes and simply said, "Why?"
I was completely dumbfounded by his question, even though it was but a mere word. After what seemed like an eternity of silence, I finally spoke.
"I was just cold so I wanted my sweater." I prayed that he was dumb enough to believe that.
"Bullshit you're skin is still hot."
'Shit, of course he didn't believe that'
Instead of talking back I simply stayed quiet. Before Mackenzie could say anything else, Miranda burst through the door.

"Sarai are you OK! I was so worr- what the fuck is he doing here?" She pointed at Mackenzie with a look of anger and disgust.
I looked down and noticed that he was still grabbing my wrist. I wiggled out of his grasp and made some distance between him and I. I was half expecting him to yell at Miranda, but instead he spoke softly and with respect to her.
"Well I brought Sarai up here when she fainted and I didn't want to leave her alone."
"Wait, how did you bring me up here."
"I carried you of course. There's no elevator and I wasn't about to drag you up the stairs."
I immediately felt guilty. It must've taken him forever to try and carry me upstairs.

"I'm really sorry." He looked at me with a raised brow.
"Why are you sorry."
"It must've been a pain in the ass to carry me up all those stairs."
"Don't say tha-" Miranda was quickly cut off by Mackenzie when he spoke.
"Sarai it wasn't any trouble at all. I wouldn't care if you weighed 2 tons, I would still carry you up the stairs. I know I've said and done some things in sophomore year that were very hurtful, but I humbly apologize both to you and Miranda. I know what I did is unforgivable, but I will make it my business to try and make it up to both of you." With that, he made his way out the room, leaving Miranda and I to ponder on his words.

"Well, should we forgive him?" I asked.
Miranda simply sat at the foot of the bed, probably thinking of an answer.
"For now, yes."
Her words echoed in my head, leaving me shocked. Of all people, how can Miranda forgive him so easily. As if she could read my thoughts, she spoke again.

"I know its strange that I'm forgiving him so easily, but I could tell from the look on his face that he was sincere about what he said. I'm not going to be all buddy buddy with him, but I will let what he did slide. What about you?"
I thought back to what he had said at the music room. Including what he said just now, I finally made up my mind.
"Yes. But as you said, for now."
