Chapter One: Found

Seven Years Later

A girl in a red cloak sat on a large rock, in the middle of the woods. She spun around when she heard a twig snap. She realized that she was not alone. The man she had been running from had found her. It was over. She would be unable to quickly get her bow off of her shoulder and nock an arrow.

The man stepped out from the cover the trees provided and produced a dagger from his belt.

"Who are you?" the girl asked, with a shaking voice. Her blue eyes were clouded with tears as he stepped closer.

The man smirked. "You don't need to know that," he sneered. "But I know who you are." Taking the final steps to reach her, he roughly grabbed the girl's chin. "Madelyn Auvray, I have been sent to kill you."

Her eyes fluttered closed as she took a deep breath. "Who sent you?" Madelyn questioned. Tears clouded her blue eyes.

The man released her chin and took a small step back. "Owedryn," he revealed with a sick smile.

Her eyes widened and her breath caught in her throat. "My uncle?" Madelyn asked in disbelief. She shook her head. "No."

Madelyn looked up at the sky. She wasn't ready to die. She thought back to Aragorn and Legolas and how she missed them terribly. Madelyn cautiously stood up and took a step backwards. Turning around, she tried to flee but was tackled to the ground by the man.

Letting out a shocked cry, Madelyn struggled under his hold.

"Get off of me!" she shouted, trying to punch him. "Someone help me!"

Before she could yell anything else, she felt his hands around her throat and she struggled to breathe. Madelyn weakly clawed at his hands, but it was no use. She couldn't breathe and black spots danced in her vision.

Suddenly, the hands around her neck were gone and the man lay sprawled on the ground, an arrow in his head.

Madelyn rolled onto her side and coughed, trying to catch her breath. She felt a gentle hand on her back as she heaved from the lack of oxygen. Turning around, her face showed pure shock as she took in the man crouched next to her. A look of recognition crossed his features, as well.

"Legolas," she whispered.

"Madelyn?" he asked in disbelief.

She nodded, and he pulled her into a tight hug. Legolas rubbed her back as he heard her ragged breaths.

"Come with me back to Rivendell," Legolas said, pulling her up. "Aragorn will be shocked to see you."

Madelyn's eyes widened. "Aragorn is there?" she breathed. Legolas smiled and nodded.

As she tried to take a step forward, she suddenly felt very dizzy and her knees gave out. Legolas caught Madelyn and looked at her in alarm.

"Madelyn, you must stay awake," he urged, gently. Despite his protests, her eyes fluttered closed and she was surrounded by darkness.

Madelyn awoke with a gasp, as everything that had happened rushed back to her. She frantically looked around the unfamiliar room.

"It is alright, Madelyn," a soft voice said, causing her to jump.

Legolas stood in the doorway. Madelyn realized she must be in Rivendell. She began to panic again when she thought about facing Aragorn. Legolas crossed the room to her bed and took her hand in his.
