. . .
When I considered that my day had started off by waking up in a room full of 78 kids all related to me by a parental god, I guessed my life couldn't have gotten any weirder.
However, being strung up in a net with Katie Gardner definitely made my afternoon eventful.
We twisted and turned, and a few awkward positions later, I gave up finding a way to arrange myself to be away from her. Her legs slung over my left one, while my right foot stuck out of the net and dangled midair. My arms had instinctively gone around her when the net was activated, so we'd been scrunched together.
This was unfortunate.
"Look what you did, Stoll!" Her strangled voice was usually like music to my ears, but seeing as the current situation was effecting me also, I cringed.
"What I did?" My anger quickly turned from my net buddy to my brother. "Connor."
He beamed, and I swore my fingers twitched into fists in hopes of punching him. "Like I said, we have a proposition for you two."
Miranda stepped forward, and Katie grunted. I couldn't see her face, seeing as our cheeks were squished together.
My heart was skipping beats. It was whatever.
It definitely wasn't whatever.
"You guys have been beating around the bush lately," Miranda started, a grin smacked across her face just as jovial as Connor's. "We know how you really feel."
"You just need to admit it to each other," Connor finished.
"What in the gods' names are you talking about?"
"Your feelings for each other," Miranda clarified. "You obviously don't hate each other."
"Yes, we do."
The phrase Katie had posed struck me in a way I hadn't imagined: it made me hurt. Her words were a jab to my chest, and I sucked in a breath. How did she not know what Connor was hinting at? It had been so avoided by both of us for years, but it had been so obvious.
It had been to me, anyway.
"We're just gonna leave you up here until you can figure something out," Connor decided, stepping away from the net we were in. "And then we'll let you down."
"What are we trying to figure out?" Katie continued, fidgeting until she lifted her cheek off of mine. "We already know how we feel about each other. Travis?"
It took me a moment to realize she was asking me to agree with her, and I offered a lackluster, "Uh, yeah. That."
No, not that.
Connor scoffed. "Looks like you guys are gonna be here a while. See ya!"
And with that, my brother sped off with Miranda close behind. They went into their respective cabins for cabin time, leaving us to sort ourselves out.
Oh, gods.
"We've gotta get out of here," Katie hissed, twisting until she leaned away from me.
