Harry's POV:
As we walked off the train I could tell Riley was still nervous but I wasn't sure what I could do to make her feel better. I was hoping we would get to see her being sorted and that was true, all of our class was going to see the new student being sorted into our grade. As we started walking to the entrance Malfoy walked out of his cart.
"Let's go a little faster we don't want to be caught by Malfoy anytime soon, at least when we are with Riley. He seemed to spook her" I whispered to Ron and Hermione.
We walked faster but I soon notice Riley at the same pace looking in awe at the castle-like building before her. I also notice she was a great deal smaller than us. She was at least four inches smaller than Hermione and barely met Ron and I's shoulders. She was tiny and cute. But we needed to move faster if we didn't want her to have to run into Malfoy anytime soon. We also learned about how she had androphobia which is the fear of men, but once she trusted people it gets better.
I carefully put my hand at the small of her back and coaxed her to move faster. She flinched at my hand but soon relaxed seeing that it was just me. Just her trusting me a little warmed my heart. She blushed a little and looked at her feet while moving forward.
I had been wondering what house she would be put in, easily fit into any of them but she was so kind Hufflepuff made the most sense. Any but Slytherin, I thought. But even if she was we would still be friends with her, it would only make hanging out more difficult.
Soon we came to the entrance of Hogwarts and greeted the teachers.
"Welcome back Harry," Hagrid said gruffly. "New girly I see?"
I quickly realized he was talking about Riley and noticed I still had my hand on her back. I moved it and while she looked back down at her feet.
"This is Riley Lovegood, it's her first year at Hogwarts but she's a fourth year like me"I spoke softly as to not spook her any further than Hagrid had "We just met on the train".
"Oh good, so she's already got some friends. Well go along she still needs to get sorted like y'all" Hagrid said.
Thankfully we escaped without any other words interactions. And just in time too, the sorting for our class was about to start.
As all the other new students got called, everything went on as normal. But what was about to happen next we would've never guessed.
"Riley Lovegood," Mrs.Mcgonagall said.
Once Riley got called up she was so nervous she began fidgeting. I had no idea what was going on inside her head as she was walking up there.
(Thankfully we do)
Riley's POV:
I still had no idea what house I could be in, everyone seemed to know exactly what one they wanted and almost all of them got it. Of course, I would love to be with my friends in Gryffindor but I felt like I didn't exactly fit there, I didn't feel like I fin anywhere. None of the houses seemed to match me very well.
I just wanted to get this over with.
As soon as I got up to the stool I sat down and they put the hat on me.
"Hmm well this one's a stunner, new to Hogwarts as a fourth year, makes sense," The sorting hat said to me. But then he started talking to everyone, which never happens. At least I was told he only talks to you until he says your house's name.
"Hmm well, Hufflepuff sure would be a fit, kind and loyal. But then there's Ravenclaw your smart and already have wisdom. Gryffindor you have courage, and Slytherin, you have true ambition" the hat told the crowd.
