CHAPTER TEN

Uncle Azeez came by to check up on us . It had been different with him after the loss he experienced all because of dad and the divorce papers . Losing a child before its full form was tearing him apart. You could tell how much he had wanted the child to live .
Mum was a different version of herself too . She ordered that Dad and Mawusi leave the main house and move to the boys quarters . She ordered the driver to never carry Mawusi's children and if she ever found out that Valerie and I thwarted that order we would be disowned . Timi was ordered to stop cooking for Mawusi and her family .She also informed dad that he would return to the office as a junior staff so he could cater for his new family . She gave dad forty eight hours to sign the divorce papers because no matter what he did or felt , her heart was no longer in the marriage and she was getting married to Uncle Azeez . The house was grew quiet . The house rules and food timetable , mum changed everything . She burnt all our clothes and got us new ones . I couldn't tell why she did all she did but I told Valerie that it was due to her hormonal imbalance , she made harsh decisions. She got a new maid from the company that brought Timi , her name was Rumi . She loved and moved differently but Valerie said she was just adjusting to us . Mum enrolled her in the same afternoon school that Timi attended and she worked in a bakery not far from the school .

School was so different with June and July especially with the way we lived , like strangers..
I had grown so distant with Daniel ever since he lied to me about Miss Maryanne . I couldn't believe I was drawn to that woman once . She was a sexual disaster . I once loved the way she walked and talked but I never even hated her while she defiled me constantly . I hated her because she knew I was together with Daniel and yet she makes him have sex with her . I don't know why Daniel wasn't speaking up . Anytime I mentioned her he just went silent. It must be hard for him ,doing sinful stuff without knowing how to get out .
I went to visit Miss Maryanne , she was the school counsellor and at this point I needed counselling. Luckily her office was free .
"Good afternoon " I said as I walked in.
"Good afternoon Valentine , you finally came around after all this weeks." She said and offered me a seat and I sat down.
" Yes , I need counselling" I said
"What's wrong?" She asked
" I think my boyfriend is sleeping with a teacher . " I said
"That's a lot . Firstly at your ages we advise strongly that you children desist from such intimate friendships as its unhealthy for your young minds."
"Why?"
"You need to be at a certain emotional , mental , physical and financial level to consider these relationships."
"So this level has been occupied by the teacher , so why didn't she desist from having my boyfriend sleep with her?"
"Have you considered talking about your suspicion with this friend of yours ?" she asked .
"He said nothing is going on between them but I find that hard to believe for reasons I do not know"
"Have you talked to the teacher about what you feel is going on between your friend and her ?."
"I'm doing so right now ." I replied
"Excuse me " she looked at me confused
"What's going on between you and Daniel ? " I asked
"I don't understand." She said
"He was here on Friday , your curtains were drawn and you moaned softly ."
"You're very mistaken young lady . My fiance was here on Friday and I think you're trying to rope me into something I am clearly not a part of . So kindly leave my office ."
"But he said he was with you . " I said firmly
"Yes Daniel ran errands for me but I wasn't sleeping with him now leave here" she replied and I left . I was more confused than ever . If Daniel wasn't sleeping with her then what was going on ?
"Who was moaning?
I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't realize it until Kambili tapped my shoulders and jerked me back to reality .
" Hey" She said
"Are you okay?"
"Yea I'm fine . " I responded .
I quickly excused myself and left her . I got to class but Daniel wasn't there.
I took a seat and waited for a while , before Daniel walked in with Kambili . He smiled at her differently , like he did when we talked for the first time. Suddenly it clicked she might have been the one moaning in miss Maryann's office , like an experimental tool for the sex game . I couldn't think straight I rushed at her and slapped her and the next thing that followed was "Stop sleeping with my boyfriend , you slut ."
Daniel pulled me away from her and said
"Valentine what are you talking about? Are you okay? " but I didn't reply , I had already drawn the attention of the whole class so I turned and ran out , Nimi and Naden followed after me quickly while Daniel helped Kambili up and led her away .
