Gulf took a deep breath as he turned around in bed, grabbing the nearest pillow to hide his face in. Sunlight was shining through the curtains, forcing him to return to the land of consciousness. He cursed himself momentarily for not closing them the night before. Snuggling closer to the pillow, he took a slow breath through his nose, enjoying the scent of freshly washed blankets. The bed was soft and smelled nice, and seemed bigger than ever. He couldn’t help but smile as drowsiness was taking over again, morning could wait for a little longer.
Wait.
The curtains had been closed when he had gone to sleep yesterday.
The thought annoyed him for second too long, and he forced himself to move again so he was lying on top his back with the pillow still blocking the sunlight. The scent of the blankets filled his nose again. He slowly opened his eyes.
This wasn’t his familiar laundry detergent. Hell, he didn’t remember having this soft of a cover, either. The pillow still blocked his eyes, but his hands started to search around on the matrass. Big, bigger than before. He always had had a twin bed, but this one was without a doubt king-size. The mattress seemed weird as well, his old but familiar mattress exchanged with something soft and bouncy.
The weirdest thing of all was, he wasn’t lying in the middle of the matrass. He had always had a habit of taking up most of the mattress, lying in the middle like a starfish. It was something his past girlfriends had always complained about, but never changed. However, right now he was clearly lying on the right side of the mattress, as if the other side was occupied by someone else. But that couldn’t be, right?
Right?
He moved his left hand up, feeling the empty space. Relief overflowed him as it was indeed empty. He must be imagining things. The small panic and confusion had woken Gulf up completely, going back to sleep now was impossible. He removed the pillow from his eyes as he sat up.
“The fuck”, he always had been a little straight forward in the morning.
The room he was in right now, he couldn’t recognize. The bed was indeed a king-size, luxuriously dressed up in gray blankets and pillows. There was a soft white carpet on the ground, disappearing under the bed. The room was large, painted in a soft blue, and two sides of the walls were covered in windows, one of them hiding an exit to a balcony. The curtains were indeed open, and colored in a darker blue than the walls. There was a dirty white sofa at the end of the bed. Even the dresser gave an impression of luxury and status. Where was his small dark bedroom he was familiar with?
He looked to his side, noticing the phone that was charging on the bedside table. Hesitating a little, he picked up it. The picture on the background was unfamiliar, but there was no denying one of the two people was him himself. He was smiling to the person next to him, a genuine toothy smile reaching his eyes. The person next to him was smiling back, both of them wearing tuxedoes. Something weird stirred in his stomach as he managed to unlock the phone with his finger-scanner.
The phone’s background this time was a picture of several people happily smiling at the camera, all of them wearing the same shirt with the words ‘TharnType the series’. He couldn’t remember taking this picture either. Gulf frowned as he made his way towards Line, checking his contacts for something familiar. No luck, he barely recognized any names except his parents and his sister. Before he knew it he was at the end of his contact list, but the name he looked for hadn’t appeared. Frustrated, he opted for the second-best and sent a text to the fiancé of his best friend.
