When Glory finally found her dragonets, it was only natural that they had found Deathbringer first.
Glory landed next to Esteria, and shot them both a dirty look. Starfinder gave a face, as if to say, 'What? We were bored, and he just happened to be there!'
Deathbringer gave a surprised look. "Lavender. Hey. Do you know them?" Glory just rolled her eyes and said, "How would I not know my own dragonets?" Deathbringer had a startled look on his face, and Glory was enjoying his reaction. He blinked a couple times, as if to settle his mind. "Oh. You never told me you had Dragonets." Starfinder giggled. Who knows what she heard in his mind. Deathbringer thought for a moment and said, "Shouldn't they be in the Dragonet Wingery? They're only a few months old, as far as I can tell. Would you like for me to get some trouble off your talons?"
Glory wrinkled her snout in disgust. "No, thank you, they are actually quite capable of taking care of themselves. They are not going to the Hatchery."
Esteria stuck her tongue out at him. To her surprise, he stuck it out right back!
Glory arched her eyebrows (YES DRAGONS HAVE EYEBROWS. (I read it myself)) at them. "Well... I see you have already acquainted yourselves with your fath- My friend Deathbringer here. I suppose you should see the rest of the village." She flicked her head in the direction of the Rain-Night kingdom, and flew off. "Be careful flying through the trees!"
—————
As they were walking through the village, either on the ground or on a vine bridge in the treetops, Glory led the way, getting herself re-acquainted with Jambu, while her dragonets chatted with Deathbringer behind them.At one point, Deathbringer and Starfinder reached an uncomfortable topic. "So... what was the former queen like?" Starfinder already knew, but wanted his perspective. She took one look at his face and instantly regretted her question. "I'm sorry! I uh-" Deathbringer cut her off. "No. It's okay. You didn't know her. It's perfectly fine to ask. I am-was, her bodyguard. Our relationship is-was, Strictly Professional. Although I wouldn't mind if there was something more..." He muttered the last part really quiet, but Starfinder noticed. "What was that? Hmm?"
Deathbringer rolled his eyes and Starfinder thought she saw some pink on the older NightWing's face. "Nothing! Really! It's uh.. nothing... OKAY! Fine! I SORTA did have the TINIEST crush on her, BUT THATS BESIDES THE POINT." His face dropped. "And now she's gone." Starfinder felt sorry for him. She wanted to nudge her father and say; 'Hey, don't be sad. She's right there.' But she didn't. She couldn't risk it. Anyone could find out, and, like her mother said, then she really would be gone.
Starfinder said to Deathbringer instead: "I know. I'm sorry." She felt like such an idiot.
"Deathbringer!" Lavender's voice carried on the wind. "Starfinder! Esteria! Don't lag!"
They ran to catch up to Glory and Jambu.
————————Later that night, Glory and her dragonets flew home. Esteria and Starfinder were out as soon as they laid down, but Glory was restless. She couldn't get Deathbringer off her mind.
Glory got up, and walked out past the moss and vine curtain. She stared into the night sky, which did not help her stop thinking about him.
Deathbringer. Her bodyguard. Her love. Her mate. She had to go see him again, had to find him, talk to him.
No. She couldn't say a word to him. Not when she was like this. She would most definitely slip up, and maybe even tell him on purpose. She would only see him, watch him from the shadows, like he did with her many times before, when she was 'alive'.
Every night she would see him, and she would be happy again. Every night she will leave him, and her heart would break, a little more violent each time. She would want to talk to him, just a phrase, a 'hello'. But she would stay in the shadows, keep her mouth shut, and not say a word, tears sliding down her snout silently. She would see him, every night, no matter how long it took to locate him.
But as of now, Glory spread her wings, on her hunt to find Deathbringer.
