Before You Go

It was late at night and both Jenny and Lily had told Chiyo that it was time for her to sleep. She had spent the whole day with Rafael, who she wished she had focused on before, instead of Yassalie. Lily had stayed at home too, in order to avoid Lexi, but found herself third-wheeling Chiyo and Rafael. Jenny had been out with Crystal and Livia and had only got back home late.

Rafael had reluctantly agreed that he had to leave as it was getting too late and Jenny was not to keen on keeping Rafael over for a sleepover considering they were dating and were both underaged.

With one last kiss, Rafael had exited Chiyo's home, with a feeling of uneasiness. He slid easily through the night amongst the smothering darkness, his fangs out and his eyes as red as blood. He felt a little guilty for biting Chiyo and converting her into a vampire, despite her telling him that she was perfectly fine with it, as it meant that they could be together... forever...

Little did he know that vampires could be killed too, although it was much harder. He had reached the prairie as he stood alone, feeling the night wind ruffle his hair gently. The stars were twinkling faintly over the black sky as he heard a sudden rush of wind behind him. His vampire reflexes kicked in, and he spun around in less than a second, but he caught nothing.

However, the stinking odour of garlic was starting to fill the air and he swore that the puddle in front of him was not rainwater, but holy water. His fangs retracted and his eyes turned brown again, while he pulled his hood up and tightened the cords of his hoodie. Then, a man emerged, wearing a belt attached with many wooden stakes, green eyes glinting darkly at him.

It was too late and he had noticed, so Rafael decided to attack, his fangs appearing again as his eyes reddened, but the vampire hunter did not seem afraid at all. He had unnatural red hair and very cruel eyes. He knew exactly who that was - Vann Melon (Chiyo had told him all about him, and she did not have good opinions on him).

Vann Melon threw a stake as Rafael dodged out of the way as several more followed and he continued to duck and slide past them. "Vann Melon," he said, catching his breath before continuing to dodge again. "I never knew you were a vampire hunter."

He smirked, a stake travelling quickly through the night air and out of his hand. He fumbled at his belt to pull out another stake. "You didn't know my last name was Helsing?"

"Right," he answered. "No wonder she's Arya Helsing. I have no idea why she kept your surname."

"Because I am her father." He took no shame in his words, seeming proud and disagreeable, and Rafael detested him instantly, finding no doubt in Chiyo's words.

"Nope," he commented. "That's definitely not it. She's a Santos and I hope she kills you if I don't kill you," Rafael snarled as he sprinted past a display of falling stakes and appeared behind Vann Melon, his fangs out and ready to bite him -

"She won't kill me because she's my daughter." Vann Melon stabbed the stake behind, just as Rafael's fangs were about to sink into his skin. "And you're dying first." He pulled the stake out and Rafael fell in agony onto the ground, Vann turning to watch him with a haughty smirk, seeing pleasure in his suffering. Watching the pain in his eyes as he began to spasm, until a few seconds later, he became very still, red eyes open wide and unblinking.

Vann Melon was ruthless and supercilious, and satisfied in his endeavour of staking a vampire, he placed the remaining stakes back onto his belt and attached them securely, and turning away from the scene, leaving Rafael's dead body there.

He knew that Chiyo was Rafael's girlfriend, so he had another target left to eliminate, to fully accomplish his job.
