There were 3 things that showed that the Stone was safe; Quirrell became increasingly sickly looking, showing that he had lasted longer than expected, Fluffy was still growling, as heard when pressing your ear against the third floor's door and finally, Snape was his normal cranky, still picking on Harry every chance he got.
Although Ron and Harry only had the Philosopher's Stone on their minds, you and Hermione were different. The exams were only ten weeks away and you were beginning to freak out.
"There's still ages before they roll around... chill," Harry said, seeing you in your panicked state.
"Yeah, you two already know everything anyway... It'll be an easy A for you guys," Ron said in agreement.
Hermione really freaked out at their calmness, and scolded them, "Do you have any idea how important these exams are? If we fail, we can't become second years!!"
"Hermione's right, besides, I take forever to make notes," you said sighing, "and Hermione knows everything, not me." You dipped your quill in ink and began writing out your homework, "plus teachers also agree with her... Homework's been piling up... Why do teachers think its a good idea to give homework before exams, it just takes away from study time?"
One of the worse side-effects exam stress had on you was increased agitation. You found it harder and harder to work around the chattering Harry and Ron. One would think that Hermione was a better person to study with, but she kept freaking out about the same wand movement, over and over again even though she was doing it just fine. One day during a library study session, you snapped, "Ugh!! I just can't stand it anymore! Ron and Harry you need to think about something else besides the freaking Stone, before Snape acts it's useless to think about it and Hermione, move onto the next bloody spell, it's good enough, you've been doing the same spell for hours... And damn this bloody annoying quill and scratchy parchment, why can't we just use a bloody ballpoint pen and foolscaps!! " You angrily marched off with your stuff messily bundled in your arms.
Once your angry footsteps were no longer in earshot, the rest of your friends were at a loss for words.
Ron was the first to speak, "is that what they call a meltdown...or...?"
"I think I'll move onto the next topic now..." mumbled Hermione, still unsure of what just happened.
"Oh, I remember now...It happened then as well," Harry said, recollecting.
"When?" Hermione asked slowly coming out of her shock.
"Well last time we were going to sit for an exam, we went to normal school together as well, she really freaked out at me. To top that off, Dudley came while she was still on edge and was about to hit me as usual and she didn't even give him time to raise his hand all the way before she swung a punch to his stomach, knocking him over and walking away."
"Well I'm glad she didn't hit anyone this time," Ron said nervously.
"Well she wouldn't hit you for nothing, Dudley was just being a jerk," Harry said defensively.
"By the way, what are 'ballpoint pens' and 'foolscaps'?" Ron questioned.
Harry and Hermione just turned to look at him incredulously.
"Ugh!!" you thought as you walked through the halls. Having calmed down a little, regret was beginning to surface. You began to debate with yourself whether or not it'd be a good idea to go back and apologise straight away or wait till later when you see them in the common room. Being so lost in thought, you didn't pay much attention to your surroundings and accidentally bumped into someone. That, someone, turned out to be Nico.
