You loved going to school, enjoyed the lessons, and even the teachers were great. However the same could not be said about the students. Behind the teachers back they bullied each other, ganging up on the weaker students, and beating them. Sometimes they would swear at each other, prank each other and do ungraceful things. Being the smart person you are, you kept your head down and never got into trouble, blending yourself into the background.

Probably the absolute worst person was Dudley Dursley and his gang of 'friends'. Their victim nearly always being his cousin Harry Potter. Harry Potter was absolutely unremarkable in every single way; he wore ragged clothes which were oversized especially on his extremely scrawny body, had messy black hair, and broken glasses, that is, except for his emerald green eyes and lightning-shaped scar. He sat next to you in class and every time a paper ball was thrown at him, you would inch ever so slightly away, afraid to get caught in the crossfire. However, with every day you saw the poor boy get bullied, you felt worse and worse for him until one day you made the dumbest move of your life, or so you thought at the time.

It had been the last straw when Dudley had punched Harry so hard that his nose bled uncontrollably. Before you could even think twice about what you were doing you stood between the two, catching Dudley's second blow, and returning a heavier blow to the guy's face causing him to topple over.

So much for blending in now.

You helped Harry to the Nurse's Office and waited for him to finish getting treated. While waiting, you were going through the events in your head over and over again, contemplating your actions as now you'll be front, right and centre on Dudley's victim list right next to Harry. As the boy came out of the office, he broke your line of thought with a smile, "Thanks for saving me F/N! I really owe you one, I hope this means we're friends!" For the first time, you were optimistic. Even though you had gained a target on your back, you also gained a friend for the first time in your life. So with a genuine smile, you sparked a new friendship and answered, "Yep, of course!"

A couple of weeks passed and although you got into fights and ended up getting into trouble, school had never been so fun. You found out you were neighbours with Harry (however this meant that unfortunately, you were neighbours with Dudley too!) and often walked to school together, and ate lunch together (actually it was more like you gave him half your lunch as he never seemed to have any). One day you met outside of school to go to a playground, and with some effort, Harry managed to sneak out to meet you. While you were on the swings you asked him, "What do you think of me?" And without hesitation, he replied, "A little sister!" You told him that you did think of him as a brother too but jokingly you added, "Wait, 'little' even though I'm the one saving your butt all the time? I thought the older one was supposed to do the protecting." Harry snickered saying, "Yeah but I'm older than you by a month!" (A/N - If your older, apologies, but please go with it.) At this point, you gave up.

As the school year was about to end, you found out that Harry was going to go to Stonewall High a different school from you. On the bright side, you two promised to meet as much as possible during the summer. However, due to certain incidents including a boa constrictor and several letters, not one meeting was made.

Every day you would wait for Harry to show up but he never did. On the rare occasion you plucked up the courage to go to his house, you were quickly and quite rudely turned away by his aunt and uncle. You hadn't blamed Harry at all knowing his situation. However, a few days before his birthday you saw him staring out of his window, and in an attempt to get his attention, you made wild hand gestures and funny faces. When at long last he took notice of you, you quickly pulled a notebook from your bag and wrote in large letters "HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!" He smiled widely and mouthed "thank you."

One fine morning on your way back from checking the mail, you noticed a yellowing parchment envelope addressed to you in emerald-green ink laying on your threshold. Although expected, you were very excited about finally receiving your letter and made your way back into your house to let your parents know. Your mother was cooking breakfast and your father was reading the newspaper when you came running into the kitchen cheerfully, "Mummy, Daddy you won't believe it, I finally received my Hogwarts letter!" Your mother smiled warmly as she placed bacon and eggs onto your plate, "Well congratulations N/n." As your father patted you on your head, he said, "We should go out for dinner to celebrate then, what do you say?" You happily agreed and dug into your breakfast.

However, unlike how your parents celebrated your receiving of the letter, the Dursley's had a drastically different approach. You heard screaming and shouting coming from their house and you had no idea what was happening. After several minutes of ruckus, you even saw them quickly run to the car and dragged Harry inside. You had witnessed this from your window and was pretty horrified by how badly your friend was treated. You wanted to do something about it but at the same time, you didn't want to get yourself too involved.

Coming from a wizarding family, you were expecting to go to Hogwarts so it wasn't surprising. But what was surprising was when you found a Hogwarts letter belonging to Harry under the Dursley's carpet. You only noticed it because you went to check if they had come back from wherever they had rushed to. It was at that moment you realised two things. Firstly, that must have been the reason for all the commotion in Harry's house and secondly, your unremarkable-looking friend was The Harry Potter.

Quickly you crossed the street and went to tell your parents what had happened. "Of course we knew he was 'The Harry Potter'. We were there when Professor Dumbledore gave him to the Dursleys and don't worry too much about your friend, Professor Dumbledore probably already sent Hagrid to sort things out," said your father. You looked at them dumbfounded, "why would he leave poor Harry with them, such awful people?" Your mother replied, "Professor Dumbledore always knows what he's doing, he has his reasons. Also, at least they took him in, I would never have taken in the child of someone I despised. In any case, with some luck, you'll see him when we go to Diagon Alley."
