Mid- December, time for Christmas preparations (wow, I'm late to the game) and hoping that you don't get trapped under the meters of snow that fell around the school. The large glistening lake that was outside of the school had frozen solid due to the constant cold. This large amount of snow was seen positively by some, such as the Weasley twins (who bewitched snowballs to torment Professor Quirrell by having them bounce off his turban) and negatively by animals such as owls who had to battle through harsh storms to deliver letters and packages and were only given a break when Hagrid treated them, only then to have to return through the harsh storms once again. However, for those who were protected by the castle walls and kept warm by the roaring fires, it was quite pleasant, that is unless you were in Snape's classroom which was always freezing.

Professor McGonagall had gone around the drafty halls asking people whether or not they were going home for the holidays. Hermione was the only one from your group who was going home for Christmas for; Ron's parents were going to visit his older brother Charlie in Romania, Harry wasn't going home for obvious reasons, after all the school was way better than his home, and you weren't going home because (plot advancements) your parents were going on a business trip so they weren't going to be home anyway. Malfoy had apparently overheard this and since no one found his jokes about Harry winning the Quidditch game funny, he decided to use Harry's lack of a family instead. Harry didn't really care though, especially since Malfoy had been teasing him about this so much it became overused.

"Don't crush the star roots (I don't know I'm practically inventing things at this point), like this idiot," Snape said coldly looking at Neville's work desk... Potions class was just getting started, and Snape already began picking on people. You sighed as you began to tear up your star root and place them in your cauldron.

"Hey, shouldn't you chop that up first?" Nico asked.

"Nah, it'll cook up too fast, " you quickly replied and turned back to your work.

"So umm... N/n"

"Yeah?"

"So it's been a while since we chatted,"

"Well we can't quite go to the tree unless you want hypothermia, and you are very busy with your princess Solaria,"

That last part made Nico blush hard, which in turn made you giggle.

"Shut up N/n! Stop teasing me."

"you really like her don't you..."

"yeah, she's perfect and she's always there for me"

Your conversation was cut short, with Snape interrupting, "enough chatting get back to work, and no destroying the ingredients," because as Nico was speaking, unbeknownst to you, you had crushed the tuber in your hand.

As you exited the class you walked up to Ron, Hermione and Harry. You saw them talking to Hagrid who was carrying, with great difficulty, a large Christmas tree. "Hiya Hagrid... Umm... Why aren't teachers using magic to carry it, it can't be easy for you," you asked curiously. Ron quickly added, "need some help?" "Nah, I'm good," replied Hagrid putting the tree down. That's when an obnoxious noise came from behind you, "move out of the way would you," Malfoy said snobbily and then proceeded to face Ron and say, "trying to get some money huh, Weasley, but after all what that oaf owns is probably like a fortune in your eyes."

For some reason, you were on edge (yeah not because of jealousy or anything) and you couldn't deal with Malfoy's shit today. Before Ron could even take a step forward, you grabbed Malfoy from his collar, practically choking him, but before you knee him in the stomach, you heard a chilling voice from behind,
