A little bit exhausted you glanced through the open window of your uncle's truck. You had decided to visit him over the summer break, or more precisely, your mother insisted on it.

After she found out that most of your friends would be away for the summer and that she'd have to work, she was probably afraid that you would spend all your days on the sofa and slowly but surely mutate into an antisocial netflix junkie.

A little while later you took the water bottle that you had packed into your backpack and drank a big sip of it, with your free hand you wiped away the sweat that had began to form on your forehead. You just weren't used to this heat. After all Oregon wasn't much of a warm place, let alone Beaver Creek, but Arizona was quite the opposite. 

,,Still not used to this type of weather, huh?" Your uncle Arthur laughed, throwing you a glance through the rearview mirror. ,,You got enough water?"

,,Yeah, I've packed another bottle for the ride."

,,Alright, it won't be long until we arrive but you never know, it's better to stay hydrated out here."

You nod and stare out the window again. Out here it was completely empty, there was not a single soul to be seen, but in some way it made this place appear idyllic and peaceful. You could easily comprehend why your uncle came to live here with his boyfriend after he outed himself. 

You were never really that close to him. After your mother got pregnant with you she moved to Beaver Creek to start her own life with your father, leaving your uncle and the rest of the family back in San Francisco bay. You have some memories of visiting them from when you were little, but with the time passing the amount of contact you guys held became increasingly less.

It wasn't until Arthur came out to be gay and was disowned by his wife and two of his daughters, that your mother decided to reestablish the relationship. She was shocked at first but then she admitted that she always had a feeling that her brother wasn't fully straight. You and her wanted to support him and talked to him more often, so phone calls with your uncle were suddenly a thing, which you liked. Sometimes he sent you pictures of the place he lives at, Away. 

It looked so beautiful and you always wanted to visit him, now the day had finally arrived.

,,And we're here." Your uncle's voice interrupted your thoughts.

You got out of the car and observed your surroundings. The place reminded you of a camp, but instead of tents everyone lived in trailers, well everyone except your uncle and Stanley, his boyfriend. They lived in a house, which Arthur explained they built together. 

,,Here you go." He held the door of his home open for you.

You entered and couldn't help but smile at the wildly combined decoration. 

,,You like it?"

,,Yeah, it looks very.. original." You grin.

,,Hahah I see where you're coming from with that, by the way, you can sleep in Becky's room. It's a pity that she couldn't come, I know the last time you saw her was long ago. But I have a feeling you'd get along." Arthur said while carrying your bag into his daughter's room.

,,In case you think I'll get bored between all you adult guys, don't worry I'm sure I'll find something fun to do." You teased.

Arthur laughed. ,,Oh I may look old but mentally I'm young."
