There seems to be a sound at the door way, 'It most certainly should be Joanne,' Anita alerts her self as she moved to unlock the door.
'Oops, it's you,' she sighed in  disappointment, It was the laundry man, she did sent some pairs of suits to him just yesterday. He is very diligent and waste no time with clothes sent to him. She collected the clothes and went straight to her room to get his balance. She went back to the couch and waited for Joanne once again.
Now, it was 30 minutes into the noon, and another bang on the door. She rushed to the door, certain that it's Joanne this time. 'Baby,' she ooze out as they both had a warm embrace. 'I trust you'll never disappoint' she said as they both broke into laughter.
'Would you welcome me in or should I just stay here all day?' Joanne queried.
'Oh, am sorry darling, why not? Come in, I was just too excited to see you, it seems like ages since we last met,' she apologized, gesticulating with her hands, the way in and pointing directly to a single settee adjacent to the door.
'C'mon, that's a lot of exaggerating, just last weekend, you were at my abode from daybreak till night falls. It just seems like you are more of to out of work than before. Lazy lad!' Joanne protested as she derailed from her hands direction and head towards the couch opposite the T.V. set.
'Whatever you decide, I just know I did miss you and you can't deny you didn't.'
'No I didn't!' Joanne interjected.
'Yes you did!' Anita protested.
'Ok, I did, so any gist?' Joanne asked as if trying change the direction of the conversation.
'Don't you trust me?' Anita giggled as she made sit for her self beside her.
'Now be serious, what's up? You seems so excited, what's the news?' Joanne asked with an indifferent face.
'Now you guess.'
'You've gotten promoted?' she quickly mentioned,
'No!' she replied shaking her head in disagreement.
'You got a car!' she guessed again but also wrong as Anita tilt her head East through West. She then gave a deep silent and was about to give up when she noticed her finger was wearing an adornment.
'ahh,What's this,' she exclaimed, and tried giving a feign over her surprise, shadowing her mouth with her left hand but it was too late, the cat has been let out of the bag. She jumped up and moved closer to her.
'You have to relate every little bit of it too me,' she demanded.
'I most certainly will,' Anita replied, 'but how do I begin?' She queried with her face sending a mixed message.
'Somewhere, anywhere, just begin, let it out, everything!' She demanded with her eyes lit up. She is more interested in the information than Anita ever thought.
'Okay, let me explain, actually, it is not a news and it is...' She began.
'How is that?' Joanne petitioned.
'Well you do know Paul, my boyfriend?' she asked not expecting an answer, as Joanne give a nod to show consent. 'He took me out yesterday, and... and... this is the result,' she said swiftly as if was trying to hide a word.
'But Nitty, you only mentioned you were giving him a try, you never relate to me it getting this "deep!"' She said with some sort of disappointment in writing all over her face. Anita just kept mute as if facing a judge in the law court.
'This isn't a sort of disapproval, No, don't even think of it. I mean am really happy for you, but am just worried if you are in safe hands,' she added to pacify her friend, whose face now sends some melancholic message.
'Are you sure you really want to do this?' She requested.
'Yes, yes, I do, I trust this guy has some good intentions, and I believe we'll do quite well,' she managed to speak up but still having a pitiable face.
'Ok then, I support you,' Joanne said. Immediately Anita face changed from gloomy to booming, she seems to have gained her friend support. Truthfully, Joanne isn't just a best friend to her, but also like a sister. She has been with her since she lost her parents to death by assassination four years ago. An incident she would never forget.
(Roll back in time)
She had just recently completed the first semester of her fourth year examination. She had her projects quite frustrating and she decided to come home and get some break. It was a Friday evening, she rode in a Toyota Yaris she got from her dad after completing her third year as a first class student. A very tedious accomplishment for a student in a very disciplined department like Department of Accounting.
On arrival at her abode, she hooted at the gate for long minutes with no response, although noticing that the gate was left open. She was furious and she rushed only to notice that the gate keeper had being tied all along and that was reason he couldn't respond to her call. She quickly untied him a they both rushed into the house. The gate keeper kept explaining that assassins just left the house. She was swift to pass the threshold but unfortunately she found her parents on the floor in pool of blood. They tried rushed them to the hospital but it was too late, they both have kicked the bucket.
(Present)
Joanne has been supportive both financially and morally all those times. She just won't possibly be able to bear it, if she ever go against her. Now Joanne had been talking, but she wasn't listening she was lost in thought.
'Nitty!'
'Yes!, yes!' she exclaimed.
'Where where you!'
'So Sorry, what where you saying.'
'Now what's next?' Joanne asked in a less authoritative way.
'I will surely keep you abreast, promise,' She replied as she crossed her chest with her two hands as a sign of pledge.
'So what's in your kitchen?' Joanne exclaimed, as if trying to hide the fact all day long that she's famished.
'You mean, you want to eat, even after all I have told you today?' Anita asked smiling.
'No I won't eat I just feed my liver with your humorous story line.' She replied as they both burst out laughing.
'But realistically, Joanne, something brothers me.' She mentioned with a low voice.
'What could that be?' Joanne motioned her hands towards her as she sank back in the couch.
'It's you,' she replied looking straight into her eyes with keen sight.
Joanne was perplexed as she wonders how she could be a problem. Perhaps could it be the previous conversation? She already gave her consent. She thought to herself, 'what could it be?' she turns her face towards her.
'I mean, you aren't getting any younger. We both know quite well that you are older than I am. But you have decided never even to give a thought to dating, let alone marriage, why? When will you begin accepting responsibilities?' She concluded with a sigh, as if relieved from a heavy burden.
'Well... I... I'll think about it thanks for your concern. Now where is your food?' She replied as she try changed the conversation. Anita didn't try pressing further, as this might infuriate her. She just smiled, got up from her sit and moved towards the kitchen, in a seductive way.
'You'd better go do that for Paul.' Joanne exclaimed as both burst out into a long laughing session.
