Family dinner night at the LaRusso's came early this week, and the night was going to be spicier then the rest. Aunt Lucille (Daniel's mom) had decided to join, and she always starts some sort of argument.
The focus of the night's conversation was on Johnny Lawrence and Cobra Kai. It pained me to hear everyone trash on my sensei, but I took it like a champ and kept my mouth shut.
"It's bad enough that this monster is teaching kids. Now he's somehow convinced the All Valley board to let Cobra Kai back into the tournament." Daniel complained. This was good news for me though. I got to finally compete, but it also meant that my two worlds were going to collide. I was gonna have to deal with that problem when it came around.
"Oh, that's horrible! They can't let them back. They're nothing but a bunch of bullies." Aunt Lucille yelled. Sam and I looked at each other in concern.
"They can't all be bullies, right?" Sam asked what we were both thinking.
"Trust me, sweetheart, you don't know the half of it. Those Cobra jerks made my little boy's life miserable. Tell them how they pushed you down that hill!" We had already heard the story a million times. Aunt Lucille changed the subject by arguing with Amanda. Sam and I stayed quiet. Both of us had boys we could day dream about, however, Cousin Louie came to sit down, bringing Johnny Lawrence back up.
"I say we get the car back. You know, I could find out where he lives." The thought of them doing any bad to Johnny upset me.
"Dad, what if Cobra Kai has changed?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, there are some kids from our school who are in it, and that doesn't automatically make them bad, right?" I helped Sam's argument.
"Girls, Cobra Kai will never change. Promise me you stay away from the kids who are associated with it. Both of you." We did what he said and both nodded our heads. I sunk down in my chair, losing my appetite. I stayed quiet, thinking about Hawk, for the rest of dinner and dessert. At some point during dessert the whole table erupted into a fight. I was able to slide away without anyone noticing. I walked into the living room and checked my phone for any texts from Hawk.
Sensei Lawrence took it a little too far at our Cobra Kai training the other day. The training ended up with multiple students injured, including Hawk. He had been attacked by one of the stray, rabid dogs, which resulted in him getting rabies. His mom was so worried that she wouldn't let him out of the house, but he had successfully snuck into my house to spend the past few nights with me.
"Hey, everything alright?" Sam escaped the family war and joined me in the living room.
"Yeah. I just needed to get out of there. If they say one more bad thing about Cobra Kai tonight, I'm going to explode." I complained.
"I know right! Why can't they get over what happened in the past? I'm sure Johnny Lawrence is different now." She said.
"I know he's different now!" I forgot Sam didn't know I was in Cobra Kai. "I mean, Hawk talks about him all the time. Johnny Lawrence is the reason he's gained so much confidence. He's a different person because of him." I covered up my mistake.
"So things with your Cobra Kai boy are doing well? Is he still sneaking into your room at night?"
"Maybe." I blushed. "What about your Cobra Kai boy?" I asked Sam. I successfully pushed all romantic feelings I had for Miguel away, making it easier to talk to Sam about him.
"I'm happy with him, but now I have to worry about my dad finding out. Could you imagine what would happen if he knew I was dating Cobra Kai's star student. He's going to think Miguel is a Johnny Lawrence clone."
