Newt looked over his shoulder and out the arch-shaped window, the glare piercing his blue eyes. The Black Lake glistened because of sunlight, the Giant Squid barely visible. He felt a shiver crawl down his spine, mostly because of the memories that swirled around in his head. He felt at home.

"Well, this is my home,"  he thought.

Suddenly, a sharp but kind voice pierced his ears.

"Newt! Classes! Remember, we aren't here to daydream."

Newt suddenly sat straight and stared at the figure in front of him. It was his brother Theseus, irritated by Newt's messy hair, wrinkled clothes and daydreaming 5 minutes before the first class.

"Sorry," Newt mumbled. "I'll get ready now."

Theseus hurried to Herbology while Newt unwrinkled his clothes and stared at his timetable which read:

''Double Potions with Professor Severus Snape.''

He groaned and hurried to the dungeons, hoping that trouble wasn't awaiting him at the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dungeon corridor was dark and gloomy, with only one small lantern that was hung at the door. Newt hesitantly waited for anyone to show up.

"Snape is going to scold me,"  he thought.

As he was thinking to himself, Severus Snape appeared and stared at Newt.

"Mr Scamander. Get inside. Now. And also...turn to page 394..." he remarked, his expression nonchalant.

"Alright..." Newt replied meekly as he entered the classroom, the world glaring at his arrival. Several Gryffindor girls laughed and pointed at him.

"Of course, I'm the elephant in the room,"  he thought uneasily.

Snape swivelled with great fashion to the front of the classroom and pointed at the whiteboard.

"Werewolves and Wolfsbane. Unknown to all, but inescapable for some."

As Snape was lecturing the class about Wolfsbane potion, Newt's friend, Leta entered the class. She was small and reserved much like Newt, with dark brown eyes, short and slightly curled hair. She politely excused herself and sat next to Newt.

Since she wasn't scolded, Leta breathed a sigh of relief. The class continued on as usual with no chatter. The work was hardcore, with a FLASK paragraph (for, link, against, solutions and conclusion with a 'k' for some strange reason) to complete. Snape was also looking for every opportunity to catch the students red-handed in mischief. Of course, there was none, until McLaggen whisked out his wand, enchanted a paper aeroplane and shot it at Newt.

"Ow!" Newt yelped. He looked back and saw McLaggen and his friends sniggering at him. McLaggen pointed at Newt, then yelled,

"Hey! Look at that nerd over there!" The boys all sniggered at Newt's dumbfounded expression.

Newt was rather hurt by the comment but couldn't pluck up the courage to say anything back. Leta, feeling rather protective today, stood up and took out her wand,

"Don't hurt him!" she replied loudly, determined to protect her friend.

The class fell silent. Snape was hiding his astonishment, as he never thought Leta would ever be capable of such actions. The bell clanged loudly.
