!Warning! In this chapter, there will be blood, death, and angst-

This one of my first times writing angst, so please don't judge-

A new chapter will come soon, possibly about a small trend...Willowvee it'll be soon!

I dashed over to Varian, who was clanging swords with the thief. Another thief came up to me, running with the sword over her head. Just as they were about to swing their sword over my head, I blocked it, leaving a loud CLANG echo in the ballroom.

"Sure you can handle yourself?" Varian winced, glancing at me. I was almost hit with a sword. Not a good sign, but I'll be fine. I laughed, blocking the thieves' moves.

"I'll manage." I smile as I kick the thief in the gut, them falling to the ground. I snatched some rope off a chair and wrapped it around the criminal's wrists. One down, two to go. I looked in the corner of my eye, and I saw Varian dragging an unconscious criminal on the ballroom floor. Varian carried the thief into the cart they came in, which was disguised as an apple pie cart. Varian then blew away his bangs from his face and charged towards the other thief. I threw the criminal I tied up over my shoulder and walked towards the cart, boots clicking on the marble floor. I scoffed as I rolled him into the cart.

"Hey girlie, you may want to worry about your friend there." The tied-up thief warned. Varian was fine, I didn't know what he was talking about. I hip my head over to Varian and I couldn't believe what I saw.

Varian got stabbed. In the stomach.

I grabbed a frying pan from the table and hit the thief with the sword in their hand in the head, which knocked him unconscious. The sword fell to the ground and it was full of blood. I dropped the pan and ran over to Varian. His face had no color and his eyes looked dull.

"Varian! Look at me, please! Don't leave me Varian!" I cry out, grabbing Varian by his shirt collar. Tears fell onto his freckled cheeks. Varian's eyes looked directly into my (e/c) ones. I looked down at Varian's jacket. It was stained red. Varian held out his hand and wiped the tears from my eyes.

"Please Varian, don't leave me! I love you! I always have! I know it's dumb, and I should've told you sooner. But now you're going to be gone, and it'll be all my fault!" I sob, grasping Varian into a hug.

"(Y/n)...don't worry about me. I'll be ok. It isn't your fault." Varian smiled weakly. I looked into his face. I couldn't lose him...not now. Blood was on his lip and all over his hands.

"(Y/n), I love you too. But it's now time to go. Move on from me, you don't need me. Live a happy life, and appreciate every moment." Varian chuckled. I sniffled.

"You deserve to live longer Varian. I'm sorry that I didn't spend a bunch of time with you. I-I'm sorry for calling you names saying that you were a dork, I'm sorry about everything!" I scream out. I heard footsteps echoing outside the door, but I didn't care. The royal family, Eugene, Lance, and Cassandra barged into the scene. Their faces were in shock when they saw Varian on the floor.

"Varian, I'm so proud of you. I'm proud of every alchemy experiment you didn't give up on, I'm proud of you for getting to have the experience to be the Royal engineer. I'm proud of you for everything. Please...never forget that." I whisper.

"Thank you. And thank you (Y/n) for being in my life." Varian whispered. His eyes started fluttering closed. "Thank you for never giving up on me when everyone else did." Varian finished, his voice getting raspier. I felt Varian's heartbeat. Nothing. I checked his pulse. Nothing. I stared at Varian. He's dead.

"I'm so sorry I failed you Varian...don't leave me..." I muttered. Varian didn't respond. He's officially dead. And it's all my fault.

"Hey Varian, what are you working on?" I question the alchemist, placing my chin on top of his head.

Varian chuckled. "Just something Eugene requested for the guards. Arrow safe shoes. I had to work with Feldspar on this one."

I groaned. "When will you be done? I want to take you on a date to go apple picking to make a apple pie."

Varian had a confused look on his face. "D-date?" Blood rushed to both of our faces.

"I-I didn't mean dat-te! I'm sorry!" I shouted, hiding my blush with my hands.

"You like me, don't you?"

"Huh?"

"You like me, don't you?" Varian giggled.

"I do not! Shut up!" I pouted. Varian laughed so hard, he fell off his chair, still holding the sides of his stomach.

"You're right. You loooooove me." Varian sang with a smirk. I stepped on his shoe, but not so aggressive that I would hit him. He was right. I do love him. I just don't want him to know yet.

Most of Corona showed up to Varian's funeral. I sobbed the entire time. Seeing his cold body didn't sink right with me. He looked like he was in pain, even when the alchemist looked emotionless. I placed Varian's favorite flowers, which were sunflowers, onto his grave. I wiped away tears from my face with my sleeve. Never in a million years did I think I would have to do that.

I visit Varian's grave everyday. I always ask how he's doing and what he's up to. He doesn't reply, but I feel like he can hear me. People still celebrate Varian's birthday every year on March twenty fourth. Everyone brings him a small gift. I would always be the first one to give him a gift. They brought him stuff like a ham sandwich, alchemy tools, or anything related to a raccoon. This year, I brought him brand new goggles. He would always complain that his goggles were too scratched up. I smiled at the memory. I placed the goggles safely on his gravestone and step back.
