TW: MAJOR WARNING. Stabbing, blood, and death. If you are uncomfortable with these topics, stop here. Trust me.
Also sorry if this is cheesy. Whenever I write angst, it's cheesy. Sorry about that-

You walked out of your cottage with a basket of cookies. Your best friend Varian has gone through a rough patch recently. His father got encased in amber while working on how the black rocks worked. It happened during the blizzard, which could have or couldn't have been caused by the ancient demon, Zhan Tiri. It's been a week since then, but you haven't been around to come sooner since you were out of town.

His house was not that far away from yours, so it did not take long to get there. Once you arrived, you slowly walked up the stairs and knocked on the wooden door. You were nervous to see Varian since he would be either depressed, angry, or both.  It didn't take long for the alchemist to answer. You were expecting a pretty upset Varian to show up at the door, but you saw somebody that had to be completely different. He looked terrible.

His once-bright blue eyes seemed dull and emotionless. He had dark circles under them and his hair all messy as if someone ruffled his hair. You weren't going to tell Varian about his appearance since he is going through some stuff. You wouldn't be surprised if he laid in bed all day with no motivation.

"Hey, Varian. I brought you cookies. I'm so sorry about your dad." You spoke in a sad and comforting tone. "Don't worry Var, we'll be able to figure this out. Everything will be alright, and I promise you your father will be free soon." You promised. Varian looked at you up and down and rolled his eyes as he snatched the cookie basket out of your hands and trudged inside.

"That was rude." You muttered under your breath and walked inside of the alchemist's lonely house. You let his rude comment slide since he's going through a lot. He led you to the basement where his lab was. Your stomach churned like butter as you saw the amber.

'How could Varian continue to work down here? This place gives me the creeps.' You thought to yourself. It looked haunted.

As Varian walked further into the cold dark room, he threw the cookie basket onto a table and walked over to his notes, and stared at them. You get that he's going through a hard time, but those cookies cost you five shillings and you don't want them to go to waste.

"So. Varian, is there anything I can do to help? I'll do anything to help you. I promise." You sighed. You didn't know what to do in this situation. Varian was startled. His eyes widened at your response. He didn't like that response.

"Listen (Y/n), promises are the last thing I want right now," Varian spoke coldly. "You of all people should know that already." He muttered. You couldn't hear what he said in that last part, but you felt sorry for him. No person should lose their parents at a young age and have them be the cause. To break the bad tension in the room, you put the cookies on some nearby plates that had purple crumbs.

"Do you want a cookie Var? Just know, if you need to talk, please. Tell me anything, only if you're comfortable with it." I stated. Varian whipped his head around and glared at you as you had the cookie plate in your hands. He stomped over and grabbed a cookie and bit into the softness. He turned back to you.

"You said you would do anything to help my father be free, correct?" Varian questioned with a smirk on his face. This didn't seem like him at all. Has he been cursed or fallen under a spell?
