"Damon Beverly Mendes, get back here!" Camila yelled as she ran after her naked son. Shawn had just walked into their home and raised an eyebrow, amused with the sight he was watching but soon caught a hold of his four year old son who was indeed in need of clothing.Camila huffed but smiled softly at the sight of her husband finally being home from the hospital.
She made her way over to her two favourite boys while she admired the sight she was seeing—Shawn peppering kisses all over Damon's face but soon stopped to kiss Camila's soft lips that he's been missing all day.
"Good," she patted his chest, shoving the clothes over to him, "you can get him ready."
"Oh, please." Shawn shrugged, setting his energetic son down before following his wife of three years into the kitchen where she had dinner prepared as she had a pot roast in her hands, bringing it over to the beautifully set table. "It can't be that hard."
"It's not as easy as you think." She said before looking him up and down, "you need to get dressed too."
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Shawn looked down at himself, examining his outfit that he thought was well put together. In his defence, he had just returned from the hospital so it wasn't like Camila was expecting him to be all fancied up for a family dinner.
"Nothing's wrong with it but this is supposed to be a nice dinner with our whole family for thanksgiving." She laughed, "not a normal night with the Mendes'." Just knowing that she was a Mendes made his heart soar every single time. No matter how long they've been together. Camila knew her husband so well that she had put out an outfit for him and settled it on their shared bed.
"You know me so well, babe!" Shawn yelled proudly from upstairs. It was an outfit that Shawn would indeed put together. A knitted beige sweater with black skinny jeans.
Archie, Annabelle, Aaliyah, Shawn's parents, Dev, Hailee, their daughter Stella, and Camila's parents settled down in front of the table with food that smelt divine as they thanked Camila for the meal as they all not only wanted a piece of the turkey she had prepared—but a piece of their grandson/nephew.
They shared what they were all thankful for which consisted of Camila being thankful for her family and thankful for God as he blessed her with the most incredible life she could ever have. It was rocky at first—she felt as if she could never overcome the overflowing bills and the lack of money she contained—she felt as if she was going to drown but a light came and saved her. Shawn was her light at the end of the dark and scary tunnel and for that, she couldn't be happier. Her heart overflowed with joy at the smiles on her loved ones faces because she knew that they were all home to her.
Shawn looked to his left at the beautiful sight of his wife playing with their son. He was a proud father and a proud husband. The life that Camila and him created together was like no other and the beauty she radiates from just smiling down at their son made Shawn's heart flutter.
This was just their beginning and their beginning was beautiful and Camila knew now that if she was capable of coming out of the darkness and seeking light in everything then she knew that her family could persevere through whatever obstacles came their way.
Money wasn't her happiness. It didn't consume her and eat her alive. It didn't scare her every time she thought about it. What brought her happiness was her husband. Her son. Her friends and the rest of her family. The people that supported her through everything—the people that gave her everything and beyond. Money could never buy her happiness because it was already bought by a special thing known as love. And that was enough for her.
