Tendou stood at the counter washing dishes after brunch and watched from inside the house as his mother and his boyfriend were outside in the garden. Planting eggplants of all things.

It was really sweet how much his mother and Ushijima had come to like each other. He smiled lightly while scrubbing a plate, as he heard his mother's laugh ring through the opened window.

He was now going into his fourth year at university. All his friends - Reon, Semi, Shirabu, and of course Ushijima - had already graduated and moved into their fields.

Reon had graduated and decided to become a social worker. He hadn't yet decided what area he would concentrate on, but he had spoken about being interested in helping people dealing with substance abuse.

Semi had a hard time choosing what he wanted to do. He wanted to do so many things, and he had so many choices too. But he could barely decide. Keyword: barely. When he was a child, he always was fascinated by space and the stars. Which led him on the path to becoming an astronomer. He was pretty excited about it and said if this wasn't what he wanted, he could always change later on.

Shirabu was a different story than his boyfriend. He knew exactly what he wanted to do. He had been preparing for this moment since high school. His mother had become sick with an illness when he was young. He had to watch her slowly wither away and he could do nothing to help her. He vowed then that he would grow up to find a cure so that other children wouldn't have to watch their loved ones fade away. He had said he may need to go to school some more to get where he wanted but Tendou knew he would get where he wanted to be.

Ushijima, with his love for plants, had decided to become a botanist. Though, his profession would not be enough to keep him completely happy. This is why he still played volleyball with a local team and even coached younger kids at a community center along with Tendou's help.

As for Tendou himself, he was looking for a career as a therapist. With all the hardships he had to deal with in his youth, he wanted to be able to be there for people going through the same thing.

Tendou had just finished the dishes as he noticed Ushijima walk towards the house. He came in through the patio door with a small smile on his face. It was a hot day outside so his t-shirt seemed to cling to his body from all the sweat.

Ushijima approached Tendou and leaned in to plant a small kiss on the tip of his nose. Tendou giggled slightly, scrunching his nose as Ushijima pulled away. Tendou looked at him and smiled back at the soft fond look he received.

"Your mother is very sweet."

Tendou laughed, "You say that every time you come over!"

"Because it's true," Ushijima shrugged, "Must be where you get it from."

"Oh, you're such a charmer. How could I ever resist such smoothness?" Tendou smiled.

Ushijima smiled back. "You can't."

Ushijima leaned in for a kiss. It was just a soft press of lips together, but it still gave Tendou butterflies in his stomach and made his heart swell. They pulled away after a few seconds.

"It seems pretty hot out there, did you want some lemonade? My mom made some yesterday."

Ushijima stroked Tendou's cheek softly. "You read my mind, sweetheart."

He turned towards the fridge and got out the fresh lemonade his mom had made. He poured out two glasses and handed them over to his boyfriend.

Ushijima turned to walk away but Tendou gently grabbed him by the arm before he could get too far.

"Don't forget to pack tonight when you get home. We have to leave for my cousin's wedding this weekend."

"How could I forget? You keep reminding me every time you see me."

Tendou made a face at his boyfriend, then kissed him on the cheek. Ushijima smiled as he slid out the patio door.

Tendou returned to his previous spot at the counter to start drying the dishes and putting them away. He was halfway through his task when his phone beeped from inside his pocket. He set down the towel and pulled out his phone.

It was a text from Tsutomu.

After everything that had happened, Tendou and Tsutomu had sat down together for another talk. This one was more civil; meaning no one was punched this time. Tsutomu had apologized again for the incident and had explained that his crush on Ushijima wasn't really a crush. It was just petty jealousy that Ushijima, whom he looked up to since he was a child, was focusing his attention elsewhere.

Tendou had decided to forgive him and they'd agreed to be civil and to not let this ever happen again or Tendou would punch him in the face again. They both laughed at that, even though Tsutomu seemed a little scared at the threat.

After a while, they became actual friends. It seemed they had more in common than they originally had thought.

Tsutomu (2 minutes ago): Hey, me and Sara are going out tonight if you and Wakatoshi wanted to join us? I'm inviting the others too

Tendou (now): Yeah I think that'd be great! Text me the details and we'll be there

Tendou pocketed his phone and continued drying the dishes. He looked out the window to check on his mom and Ushijima.

He watched in confusion as Ushijima spoke animatedly. He had only seen him like this when he spoke about volleyball or something that really captivated him. He tried to get nearer to the window so he could listen, but they weren't close enough for him to hear completely, only a few words here and there, or if they spoke loudly.

Suddenly, his mom shrieked and flung herself around Ushijima's shoulders, laughing with excitement. Ushijima hugged her back and set her back down on the ground. When she was firmly set on the ground she wiped at her cheeks and started talking sternly at his boyfriend; Tendou recognized her accusing finger from being on the receiving end of it too many times.

Tendou was confused at the display but quickly shook it off as his mother was being herself, and continued his task.

Little did he know that this was about the little velvet box burning a hole in Ushijima's pocket.
