Zack Weller's POV:

Ryder opens the door to my suite. I have a pretty nice room since I live here all the time. I always have so much work to do in the compound so it makes sense for me to just stay here.

"What's up Ryder?" I ask, not looking up from my papers. I have to sign these contracts and send them back over to the drug business we're partnering with.

He sits down on my couch and turns on the TV, "Not much. Just wanted to let you know that I was back with Shay and Eadlyn."

"Why would I care?" I ask.

He smirks at me and I glare at him, "Don't act like you don't care. I see how you act around her. You like her."

I chuck a book at him and he smiles as he catches it. I say, "I do not. I was just being friendly and welcoming. They're new here. We want to make them feel welcome so they won't betray us. That's all."

"No way Boss. You never act like that around new recruits. We get newbies all the time and you've never been that friendly before. You usually just pin them on someone else. You were different around this girl. You insisted on doing it all yourself."

I grit my teeth, "No. So maybe I want to be a better leader and get to know my members a little more. Sorry for trying to be social."

"Oh yeah. You want to get to know her for sure." He makes an obscene gesture with his hands and I glare at him.

He continues on, "I can see why you like her so much. She's a really great person."

I scoff, "You should've seen the attitude on that one the first day we met."

"First of all, you did kidnap her. Secondly, you should see her around her little sister. It's like she lives for her and only her. Like everything she does is for her. She's so gentle around her and kind too. Not to mention her looks. Damn, that girl is gorgeous."

I roll my eyes, even though my heart jumps when I think about her. What the hell is happening to me? I've never felt like this about anyone. I've been with plenty of girls, but not the way I want to be with her. I want to know her. I push it out of my head. I won't let her get in the way of my work.

Ryder says, "Well, if you insist you don't like her, maybe I'll just ask her out then."

He's trying to stir up a reaction in me. My fist clenches at the thought of her being with someone else but I say, "Go ahead."

He smiles and turns up the television. "Get out of here. I'm trying to work!" I say.

He leaves chuckling. I take a deep breath. I need to get her out of my head.
