Zack Weller's POV:
I open my office door to Ryder passed out on my couch. He has a room here of his own, but usually crashes in mine anyway. I shake him awake, "Hey! Get up!"
He jolts awake, "Yeah Boss?"
I take the file on Shay off my desk and throw it to him, "What'd you find about her?"
"You sure you want to hear this? It's kind of messed up?"
I nod.
He sighs, "She had a pretty normal life until she was 8. Her mother died giving birth to her sister. Her dad became an alcoholic. I think there's were some abuse issues after that. Shay brought Eadlyn into the hospital several times covered in bruisers and scars. The hospital claims said she had fell or stuff like that, but you don't get those kinds of injuries from a fall. Her dad has been unemployed since their mother died. Bills were always payed on time though, Shay got a job at the diner when she was 9, so I'm guessing she payed all the bills. Her grades are perfect but she's in the lowest level classes, probably because she's busy taking care of her sister and working.
As if that's not bad enough, teachers reported that she had no friends and people would call her crazy because she would 'talk to herself' in the halls. Basically everyone in her school reported similar things. They call her crazy or delusional. No one ever reported her having any friends. Which was odd, because her former boss at the diner and coworkers say she's the sweetest girls they've ever met and that she has 'such a kind heart caring for that little girl.'"
I sigh. Holly cow. "The reports about her in school, sounds nothing like her. The ones about her from her boss, that sounds more like her. The other stuff, I sensed something was going on with them, but I didn't think it was like that."
Ryder shakes his head, "Yeah. I don't know man. Just be careful with that one. There's something not right about her. I went looking for answers and just ended up with more questions."
I sigh and grab a first aid kit from my bathroom, "I'll be back."
I walk into their room and see Eadlyn standing next to the bed. Shay is up and she's whispering to her.
I clear my throat, "You're up, that's good. I brought bandages."
She nods, "Thank you. You can go now, you don't have to stay."
I shake my head, "Not until I get some answers."
