The clock struck 5 o'clock. I'm now waiting for Hoseok to come by. He invited me out to dinner, to celebrate for winning my case today he said. Everyone in the office had already gone home, only some people are left, including me. I take a glance at my watch again, fifteen minutes have passed since the proposed time. He's running a little late but it's okay. It might be the rush hour traffic."Still here?" Hyun peeked into my office, grinning. "Is your boyfriend coming? You can still change your mind while I'm still here."
"He'll be here." I assured him with a smile. "You can go. Have a good weekend. Bye."
"If you say so." He raised a hand towards me. "Have a nice date."
Another ten minutes have passed. Is he still coming? There's no messages or anything coming. I decided to call him. The phone kept ringing. He usually picks his phone up the first two or three rings since he always has his phone with him wherever he goes. Did something happen?
The phone went to voicemail after eight rings but I tried again. Fourth, fifth ring, sixth ring, voicemail. Again.
"Hello? Cherrie? Are you still at your office?" Hoseok rambled. There were lots of noise in the background like he was moving around in a rush. "Sorry. I overslept. I'm coming now—"
I heard a woman's voice on the other end and a lots of commotion. "Sir, you have to rest. Your drip is not finished. You'll bleed if you pull it out like that."
"Hoseok, are you at a hospital?" I asked him. I stood up and grabbed my bag without waiting for him to reply.
"Uh, yeah. I was sent here.." He said in a weak voice. The nurses told him to sit down.
"Hoseok, stay there. I'm coming over there now." I ran to the lift and dashed through the lobby, into the street. I waved a taxi and got in quickly, telling the driver which hospital to go to.
When I got to the hospital, I found him on a bed in the ER with a drip connected to his hand. He tried to sit up when he saw me, "Cherrie, I'm sorry. I couldn't come to get you."
"Hey, it's okay." I sat on the bed, facing him. "What happened?"
"It's nothing big. My stomach just acted up. Maybe something I ate yesterday. I started having stomach cramps in the morning then started vomiting around lunchtime then they took me here." Hoseok explained, his eyes look a little sunken. "They hooked me up to some fluids and gave me medicine that made me feel sleepy then I woke up when you called me. I'm really sorry. I even promised you we'll have dinner together to celebrate."
"You're still worried about that?" I chuckled at him. "I already said it's okay. It's not your fault at all. Are you feeling better?"
"Better than this morning. I'm just glad you're not angry at me." Hoseok managed to smile back. "The doctor said I can go home when my drip is finished."
I looked up at the remaining fluid on his drip, "I'll wait with you then we can go home together."
"Are you sure? This might take another 30 minutes or so." Hoseok worried, "You must be tired after a long day."
I shook my head and made him lie back down again. "We'll go home together. You should sleep again. I'll wake you up when it finishes."
Hoseok finally listened to me and fell asleep with my hand in his. It's true that I'm worried about him but all these feelings only exist because I thinks of him as a close friend. Will I ever love him?
