Wels howled Jevin's name to the charging wind, even though he knew it was futile, knew Jevin was gone. Someone flew into view, hovering above the water. Cub.
'Hold on! I'm here to help!' The pharaoh called. He held out a hand for Wels to take, and the knight did.
'Where's Jevin? You said he was here to?'
Wels held up the hoodie. Cub was silent, mourning for a moment before heaving the knight out the water.
'Scar! Help!' The pharaoh called. The mayor swooped down, taking Wels's other hand. It was harder, since the knight refused to let go of Jevin's hoodie.
'There's land just over there, if we can get Wels there, we can then plan what to do next.' He called.
'I was trying to get there anyway...'
Lightning scored the clouds again. Cub looked up, nervous.
'I don't like the look of that lightning. Wels, it would really help if you actually used your elytra...'
'Right...' Wels shot up from a firework rocket, before flagging again, exhausted. Cub and Scar flew up towards the knight, but before they could reach him, fork lightning struck him.
'WELS! NO!' Cub wept. The electrocuted corpse fell into the ocean, and the pharaoh went to dive down, held back by Scar.
'You can't save him! He's already dead!'
'I can still bring back the body.'
Cub dived into the water, swimming into the depths. Scar remained at the surface, staring down, trying to spot his friend.
It took a mercifully short amount of time to reach the dead knight. Getting out would prove harder. The pharaoh swam strongly, using his elytra to help. But Wels was a deadweight, heavy and cumbersome. Cub refused to let go.
His lungs burned as he spent longer and longer under the tides. But eventually he splashed his way to the surface, moments before he fainted.
Cub had been moved to Xisuma's base after the storm, which meant Scar had even more trouble avoiding Grian. The builder was often seen laughing and chatting with Xamphe and Iskall throughout the day? The mayor didn't want to upset him by being around too much.
It was the day after the storm when Cub woke up, coughing up water and a small fish. Scar was there, as usual, and looked excitedly up from some mayoral stuff.
'Cub! Thank goodness you're awake...'
'Why wouldn't I be? I'm at Xisuma's base, I guess.'
'Yep. It was the closest place, and where we were keeping all the healing stuff.
'All that happened was I stayed under water an unwise amount of time! I don't need healing potions!' Cub assured.
NPC Grian entered then, stiffening as he saw Scar and Cub together, remembering the agony of being built.
'Hey Scar...' the robot tried to hide his vengeful anger, but both the hermits noticed.
'You ok?' Scar replied, inviting NPG to sit down. He did, purposefully staying away from Cub.
'Hold on a moment... I remember you! I build you!' The pharaoh recalled.
'Yeah... you did.' The robot was clearly not enjoying the memory.
'Don't worry about Cub. He's not that bad...' Scar gave up speaking as NPC Grian glared at him.
'I'm sorry for what I did?' The pharaoh tried to apologise. NPG glared at him too. There was a hostile silence, before Scar spoke again.
'Hey, NPC... what happened two days ago? When you tried to kill Grian and hurt me?'
'I don't know... I just felt anger. A lot of anger. And a need for revenge. It's gone now. I'm sorry...'
'It's ok. I'll always be here for you.' Scar forgave. The robot smiled back.
'I'm glad it was you who rescued me.'
'I'm glad I rescued you.'
'I'm going to return to my pyramid now...' Cub cut in. Scar nodded, saying goodbye to his friend and former business partner. The pharaoh flew away, leaving the mayor and the robot in peace.
'I don't like Grian.' NPG spoke after Cub was gone. 'He shouted at you. And wanted to kill me.'
'He's not too bad... he's just feeling stressed out...'
'Maybe I shouldn't have taken the hoodie... I did give it back after.'
'Everyone makes mistakes.' Scar replied fairly.
'We should return to our homes too. It's getting dark.' NPC Grian looked out of the tower at the setting sun. Grian hovered a hundred blocks away, saying goodbye to Xamphe and Iskall. He flew away, and Scar stood up.
'Let's go.'
The two left the admin's base, NPC Grian watching Iskall as he lay on the bed. The progress on his new legs was going well, but he still couldn't walk.
'Come on!' Scar called. The robot blinked, and followed his mayor-friend away, back to the magical village.
The next day dawned bright and warm. Grian yawned himself awake, standing and pulling on a sweater. He equipped an elytra and was about to fly away when a message appeared in chat.
'Everyone, come to the shopping district. Now. It's serious.'
It was from Beef, but that information didn't give away anything else. The builder began flying, around to his nether portal, and into the nether.
He met Mumbo there, and kept his distance from the moustached redstoner. Their argument had been too recently, and Grian hadn't forgiven the former architech yet.
It was a short flight to the shopping district portal, and the two arrived at the same time. Scar was already there, as was Xamphe. The latter ran over to Grian, clearly upset.
'I'm sorry... I didn't notice what happened... I stole one of X's numerous spare helmets so I could come here... Oh Grian... I'm sorry...' Everything came out in a mess of tears. Grian looked towards the town hall, and ran up the stairs, paralysed by what he saw.
A dead body, sprawled on the ground, badly burnt and bleeding, lay there. It looked as though their heart had been torn out of their chest from the amount of blood. Grian let out a caterwaul of agony.
Iskall.
