Don't ask me where this idea came from and just read it, I promise it's not as bad as the first sentence sounds.

"Hello? Please, they told me, you would take me in and do whatever you please but just do something, anything. I'm scared!" I heard the voice of a boy call out as I was looking for some rosemary for my dinner.

He sounded terrified so I decided to look for him. Maybe I could help.

"Please don't hurt me" the voice of the boy sounded defeated by the time I found him.

As I saw him standing there with a rope around both of his wrists, connected to the deepest branch of the tree in the middle of my forest, I gasped in horror. He seemed around my age but the scared expression in his hazel eyes that were filled with tears made him look way younger. There were tears on his cheeks too and his eyes were already puffy from crying. He kept his weight on only one leg the other was broken by the looks of it. On top of that there were multiple scratches on his arms, indicating he didn't went here voluntarily. Immediately I felt sorry for him and wanted to help.

Hesitantly, to not scare him even more I stepped in front of him. Despite him being taller, he began shaking violently so I spoke up gently: "I'm not going to hurt you."

The boy just looked at me so I did the same. He was scaringly skinny and had brown hair. His clothes were probably handed down, his once white shirt was now stained with dirt and the trousers didn't look any better. But the most pitiful thing was the expression on his face. He was obviously scared to death so I hoped the fact that I was his age and a girl that was shorter than him, clad in a simple green dress would make me seem less threatening and calm him.

Slowly I stepped closer so I could inspect the ropes around his arms but he flinched away.

"Please don't hurt me" the boy begged once again and my heart broke at the desperation in his voice.

"I won't hurt you, I promise but please let me help you" I reassured him.

The boy looked at me, fear and hope written on his face. "A-are you the witch th- they want me to sacrifice to?" he stuttered out, fearing my next action.

On the outside I stayed completely calm and smiled at him friendly. On the inside however I thought of countless things I would possibly do to the village that was near my forest and obviously his home. The ideas ranged from a dry summer to some fake rituals to scare them even more. Maybe I could kidnap some kids as well if that was the way they were treated at their homes. I would certainly treat them better.

"I fear I am the only witch living in this forest." the boy looked like he would pass out soon, so I quickly added: "But as I promised I only want to help you. Can I please cut these ropes and treat your wounds?"

He considered my offer for some time then nodded slightly. Honestly, it wasn't much of a choice but I wanted him to feel more comfortable. Scared of hurting him, if I did it by hand, I snapped my fingers and let the ropes disappear.

Immediately after his hands were free he rubbed his wrists. "Thank you" he whispered almost inaudibly. His eyes however were facing the ground and I could tell that I had scared him half to death with this action. Magic was probably not my best idea with a terrified boy who had been told that I'm an evil, child-eating witch.

I only smiled at him, offering my arm for him to walk. "I know you don't really trust me but my medical equipment is at my house. The way isn't long. My name is Y/N. What's yours?"

"Mikey" the boy introduced himself and limped towards me. If he did so because I intimidated him and was afraid what happened if he didn't or if he trusted me, I couldn't tell.
