Emily ran outside and down to the street where she had parked her car, she climbed inside and slammed her door. Her heart was racing as tears poured down her face. "How could you be so fucking stupid Emily!" she yelled as she hit her steering wheel. The brunette leaned her head against her wheel as she sobbed. She didn't move for what seemed like hours, as she checked the time she wiped her face and drove home. She was glad that the team was off for the next two days, she couldn't face JJ not yet.

JJ had passed out on Penelope's couch that night but woke up with a groan the next morning. She sat up and looked around just as the events of the night had flooded back into her mind, Emily had kissed her. Emily had kissed her and she didn't have time to react before her friend ran out of the apartment. JJ grabbed her phone and tried to call her again but there was again, no answer so she resorted to a few texts asking Emily to answer her. JJ had made her way home and laid down in her own bed, her mind ran with thoughts as her heartbeat quickened. JJ was shocked to have been kissed but thinking back to it, she felt like her body had come alive. It was a feeling she couldn't shake, she never felt that way with Will. And then it hit her. It hit her like a truck as small tears threatened to fall from her eyes. She had realized why she wasn't satisfied with Will, she had realized why when she was with the older woman she felt at home. She had feelings for her friend.

The days off ended too quickly for Emily's liking. She had dodged phone calls, texts and even a visit or two from JJ and a few from the other team members. She had no energy to deal with what she knew would be waiting for her when she walked inside the BAU. Emily had showered and put on a black suit before making herself a cup of coffee before walking out the door. She took her time to get to the office and even was a few minutes late. She walked in to immediately be summoned by Hotch to the conference room. "You're late Prentiss." She nodded "sorry about that sir it won't happen again." She followed Hotch into the room with the rest of the team, she refused to meet JJ's eyes who were begging her to look at them but Emily refused. She sat in silence as she listened to the details of the case about how family houses of a suburban town in San Francisco were going up in flames, a psychotic arsonist. "wheels up in 15 guys, try and rest on the plane. This is gonna be a long one." Hotch sighed and left the room while the rest of the team also let out a collective sigh. As everyone was leaving JJ hung back in hopes to talk to Emily but the brunette slipped by before she could be stopped.

The team had landed in San Francisco and after talking to the officers involved in the case at the station, the team headed to the motel they were to stay at. They all got out of the car and waited for Hotch to explain the sleeping situation, he turned to them with his famous frown rubbed the back of his neck. "Guys due to budget cuts we will have to share rooms, so Reid and Morgan will be in one, Dave and I will be in one and then Emily and JJ you guys will be in one." Emily felt her anxiety sky rocket but nodded her head and followed everyone inside. JJ felt relieved, once again hoping to be able to talk to Emily. She figured if she was cornered in a room she'd talk sooner or later.

Emily allowed JJ to enter the room first before closing the door behind herself. She carried her bag and set it down on the bed closest to the door, easiest escape route being her secret motive for choosing that one. She rummaged through her things before finding her clothes but before she could make it to the bathroom she felt a hand on her arm. "Emily please talk to me." JJ had a soft yet firm grip on her arm but Emily pulled her arm back slowly. "We have nothing to talk about." The older woman mumbled, refusing to turn around. JJ sighed and walked in front of her so she could make Emily face her. "Yes we do. You haven't been well...you since the case with those girls in Miami. Is it because of me?" Emily scoffed and crossed her arms. "not everything is about you JJ." The blonde frowned and tightened her jaw, she was getting upset. "You know Em, I really do not understand what I did for you to act so fucking cold towards me. I really don't get it. And we do need to talk because of what happened." Emily let out a breathe and shook her head before looking into JJ's eyes. "You know what? It was because of you, it is because of you. I'm tired of all the longing glances, I am tired of the constant confusing affection coming from you. I am tired of being confused about you because JJ the reason I have been so damn distant is because you..." her voice had risen but now had fallen to a hushed tone as tears threatened to fall. "Jennifer Jareau you broke my heart. You broke my heart when you told me about Will." JJ looked at Emily trying to find the words "Emily I-" Emily shook her head and stepped back. "no. Don't...Look JJ I'm sorry for the other night I really am." And with that the brunette walked out of the room and disappeared down the hall. JJ listened to the door slam before leaning against the bathroom door and sliding down and she covered her mouth to mask the massive sobs that were coming out. She had hurt her best friend. She had hurt Emily. She had hurt the one person who made her feel home, the person she had fallen in love with but was too blind to notice.

Emily walked around until she ended up at the pool. She rolled up her pant legs and stuck her feet down into the blue water. She sniffled softly while wiping her tears away just for more to fall. Just as she had started to calm down she could hear feet walking towards her "JJ please.." She looked up at a smiling Derek who had changed into shorts and a t-shirt. "not JJ, however.." He trailed off as he sat down with a grunt. "I did happen to hear everything. You know Em, you can't blame JJ.." Emily sighed and put her head in her hands "I know. I know it's not her fault for making me feel how I do I just..." Derek wrapped an arm around her nodded "I know baby girl..I know."

The pair sat by the pool and talked for a few hours before Derek finally convinced her to return to her room and go to bed. Emily did just that. She walked in to a dark room and sighed in relief before climbing into her bed and closing her swollen eyes. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep, she had spent all her energy on crying and had become officially exhausted. JJ on the other hand, it took her what seemed like an eternity to fall asleep, only to be woken up at 6am to start the day.

As their phones had gone off the next morning both girls stayed silent, almost as if they spoke the other would shatter but that didn't keep them from glancing at each other. The team went back to the police department where there had been a break in the case. They had found the next targets. The team rushed over to the neighborhood just in time to see a house go up in flames, everyone jumped out of the SUVs and ran towards the fire. "everyone stay back, let the firemen have room." Everyone moved back, everyone except Emily. She stared at the house in horror but a noise had caught her attention so she started to step forward, oblivious to the orders being given to her by her superior. "Prentiss! What the hell are you doing! Get back here." Hotch as well as everyone else was trying to get her to come back but she didn't hear. Emily looked around "Guys..." her voice was no louder than a whisper when she heard it again. "Help! Mom! Mom? Dad?" it was a child and the yells was coming from inside the house.

JJ sighed and rubbed her neck as she listened to Hotch try and coerce the brunette back from the fire and turned to Derek with her back to Emily. "Should I go and get her? I mean she-" JJ had turned around just in time to see her friend run into the burning house. JJ felt every ounce of blood drain from her face as a buzzing noise took over in her ear. "Emily!" she yelled and tried to run after her only to be restrained by the rest of her team. Tears fell down her face as she continued to try and yell for Emily to come out knowing that the chances of her seeing the brunette again alive were not very good odds.
