Patton stared out as the rain rushed to the ground to leave the stormy sky above him. A hurricane had hit the coast yesterday night while Thomas was sleeping so they didn't have time to get out of the house. So now they were waiting here, hoping they wouldn't get hit to badly. Thomas and the rest of the sides, minus Remus, were sitting over in the living room playing a game of Uno. Patton had one last round and kindly stepped out of the game so he could come stare at the rain.
Rain is a very interesting thing. At times it can be scary and devastating, bringing vast destruction and leaving nothing in its wake. While other times it could be a kind little drizzle that makes you shiver a bit, but it still feels relaxing. Currently it was a torrential downpour that was aiming to destroy everything in its path, but wasn't succeeding. He knew the worst of the rain was still yet to come as the eye of the storm itched closer. Of course the eye itself wasn't harmful, but the circle around it had the strongest winds and no one liked that.
The power had gone out over an hour ago, which panicked Thomas at first, but Logan, Janus, and Virgil had quickly helped him calm down. Since then they had been playing a variety of games from chess, to Sorry, to Uno. Patton was enjoying all the time he was getting to spend with his family, although Remus had sunk out a while ago after Janus snapped at him for trying to stick- You know what? I'm not going to finish that sentence. There was no doubt that he would be back later though.
Although with his family all at least a little bit nervous about the hurricane, including himself, it did set him a little on edge. Though he would continue being the happy optimistic Happy Pappy Patton for everyone. They needed the reassurance, and he would be happy to supply them with it. He gave another glance at the rain and clouds. It was starting to flood outside and Patton had a feeling it wouldn't be long before there was an inch of water on the ground.
This wasn't a completely uncommon occurrence, but it also wasn't something that happened extremely often. Hopefully the drains were clear enough that not all of the water would pile up there. He gave a sigh and turned around to where he could see the rest of his fam-ILY relaxing, or trying to, around the pile of Uno cards. It seemed to be that Virgil, Roman, and Thomas were out so it was just an intense battle between the two brain cells of Thomas, also known as Logan and Janus.
He walked over to see a massive draw two stack happening, 8 cards, Virgil said. This would probably show who either won the game or lost it. One more draw two from Logan. Then another one from Janus. Then... no more cards from Logan. You could see the panic on his face as he drew those twenty cards while Janus only had one. "Uno.," said the snake.
With Logan's turn skipped from the drawing Janus put down his final card, a wild draw four he had probably been saving this whole game for this one purpose. "Damn it." Logan slapped his cards don on the floor and leaned back so he had his back against the couch. Janus had a smirk on his face that no one could have wiped off easily. They had played two games of Uno now, with Patton winning one, and Janus winning the other.
When Patton got back to the others they seemed to notice his change in mood from super happy that he won to a calm form of him probably reminiscing on the past... Of course this wasn't uncommon either considering he was Thomas's memories, but they knew that generally he would zone out more during this as he thought. This was fine though, and he would probably continue like normal with a little bit of a more lazy tone.
"Anyone up for another round?" asked Virgil from where he was perched on the back of the couch. A few nods and other noises of confirmation, including an excited squeal from Remus who had risen up again, told him they were doing another round, so they gathered in a circle. Janus dealt the cards and they started up the next round filled with a very pissed Roman and Virgil because they kept attacking each other. Though they were having fun and that's what mattered to good ol' Happy Pappy Patton.
Patton played his hand rather sloppily and was the first out of the eight of them. Remy did pop up though about three cards into the game so they had to restart yet again. Patton was not happy with the language coming out of his mouth though, so he sunk into his room promising to be back before the next round started. Once in his room the memories that he had been waiting to look at filled his mind even more.
The picture frames in the corner that hanging all across the walls shifted to the memories he wished to see at the moment. They played as if they were movies. The first one was one of Thomas's first memories of when he was in a hurricane. It had been a lot like this, but instead of the sides playing games with Thomas, it was Thomas's parents and him playing. Games like Chutes and Ladders (also known by the name Snakes and Ladders), Mini Monopoly, Guess Who, and Spot It.
The next one was a lot similar to the first one, except the first half was him playing with his parents, then he retreated to his room to play with younger versions of Patton, Logan, Remy, and Roman. From the looks of the decorations in his room and the ways the sides looked Patton could determine that they were teenagers around the age of what he guessed from the date on the calendar in the background 15. Those were interesting time for sure.
The last one was from two years ago. It was almost the same as now, except Janus still went by the name Deceit back then and Remus still didn't exist. Well, he existed, but he wasn't introduced to everyone yet. So instead of it being all of us, it was me, Logan, Thomas, Virgil, Roman, Remy, and Deceit. Those days were a little more peaceful than right now, but Thomas liked having all the aspects of his personality known, well, yeah. All of the aspects of his personality.
Those memories brought a warm smile to the moral side's face as he watched them a few more times. He felt a light tap on his shoulder and turned around to see Virgil standing behind him. "Looking back on old memories, I see," his voice was quiet enough that it seemed to match the tone of the setting. Patton just gave a slight nod as he turned back to watch them all another time. Virgil did the same thing as he watched them through once. "A new round is starting soon if you want to come join us."
Patton turned around and surprised Virgil with a tight hug that felt like fam-ILY. Virgil stiffened for a second before returning the hug to his father-figure. After a minute Patton pulled away from Virgil, a bright smile on his face. "You ready to go back to the others? You still need to win something." The scowl returned to his face at the mention of his non-existent wins. Patton chuckles and together they sunk out back to the others.
