The next morning Percy woke up to the shuffle of movement.
Must be breaking down camp. Why didn't anyone wake me? Percy thought to himself.
Percy got up and got dressed, and began packing his bag. He carefully wrapped the dreamcatcher in a tshirt and securely put it into his bag.
Once he packed up his tent he stepped out.
He immediately noticed something was wrong.
The hunters were all scattered around the camp. Some of them were running around looking the outside of the camp.
Percy saw the lieutenant, Pheobe standing outside his mother's tent. He walked up to her.
"What's going on?" Percy asked.
Pheobe gave him a worried look.
"Lady Artemis is gone." She said. Percy's face paled.
"What do you mean she's gone? Where did she go?" Percy asked quickly.
"I don't know. She left without a trace. She didn't say anything. I woke up to break camp and her tent was empty. I asked Apollo for help and he hasn't seen her since last night." Pheobe said.
It was real. My dream was real. She's gone. The dark figure got her. Percy thought. He began looking around frantically. He pushed passed Pheobe and ripped open Artemis' tent. He found it empty. He began tearing through her things, looking for any sign of her.
"Percy!" Pheobe said, following him in.
"How can you be so calm!? My mother is gone! I knew this would happen! I tried to tell her! I tried! She wouldn't listen! She told me it was just a dream. She promised me-" Percy's eyes started to water.
Pheobe placed a hand on Percy's shoulder which caught him off guard. The hunters rarely made contact with men, even Percy who grew up with the hunters.
"Percy, were all worried. I've already searched her room. We've done everything we can, she's in the Fates hands now." Pheobe said.
"But-" Percy began but Pheobe cut him off.
"She's the immortal goddess of the hunt. She can take care of herself." Pheobe said.
"He's going to kill her! I saw it! I tried to tell her." Percy trailed off, hot tears running down his face.
"Tell me what you saw." Pheobe said.
Percy briefly explained his dream from the night before.
"This is more serious than I thought. I assumed she left to hunt down a monster, but this is much more dire." Pheobe said, "But we must think of the hunters right now. We aren't safe without our goddess here. We need to think about our next move."
"We need to find her! Before it's too late!" Percy snapped. Pheobe looked taken aback, but she quickly recovered.
"Percy, this is more than we can handle. And as I said we aren't safe here. Our goddess isn't here, which means I am in charge. We need to gather the hunters to discuss our next steps." Pheobe said. Percy realized she was asking for his help.
He wiped his face of tears. He pulled the dreamcatcher from his bag. The moonstone glowed in his hands.
As long as the moonstone is glowing, I will be watching over you, my son.
"You're right." He said slowly, "We need to go to Olympus."
"We cannot. The hunters aren't allowed without summons. But I do know where we can get help." Pheobe said reluctantly, "Help me gather the hunters to tear down camp."
