As the students around me walk by and chat with their friends, I wonder what led them to end up here, at Washington University. It's only been a few days since college started, but it feels like home already. For me, it was sociology, but for others it could have been the interest for pre med, the city, or the unbelievably beautiful buildings. That certainly caught my eye right away. I know it is a little weird that I think about other people's backgrounds, but I have always been known to be the curious one.
On the way to class, I drop by a coffee shop nearby to pick up my usual: hot cocoa and a chocolate chip muffin. I check the time as I calmly walk out of my sanctuary only to realize I have two minutes before class starts. I start to feel a familiar pit growing in my stomach as I run towards the building, and finally, I reach my destination.
To my utter despair, I stumble into the classroom right when the class is silent and the professor is about to speak, causing every head to turn towards the door where I am awkwardly standing with my breakfast and bag full of books and notes.
I hear a snicker from the far right corner and when I turn my head to see who's mocking my tardiness, I immediately recognize him. Nate Taylor. He was in my almost all the schools I attended from elementary to high school. We were in the same class a couple times, but we never really talked. Every time we did, it was mostly to annoy each other. A pretty significant detail I'm leaving out though is that I had a huge crush on him. I eventually told him which led to a field day for him and a disastrous one for me. From then on, I stayed away, until now.
