After filling out the seemingly endless amount of paperwork required to obtain guardianship, both Hizashi and Shouta had opted to go back home for a while. Hitoshi needed to be fed and put down for a nap anyways and this gave the two heroes some much needed downtime. As soon as Hizashi had the baby fed, dry, and situated in his homemade bassinet, he softly padded out of the bedroom, shut the door, and made his way to the living room to collapse on the couch next to his husband. Mic plopped himself down with a heavy sigh, closing his eyes and running his fingers through his long blonde hair.
"Hell of a morning, huh Sho?"
Shouta didn't offer anything by way of reply. He sat hunched on the edge of the couch with his head in his hands, mulling over the morning's events. The deputy had been quick to act once the papers were signed, calling both UA and the radio station immediately to inform them of the heroes' upcoming absence and need for a few months time off. Hearing Principle Nezu's chipper voice on the other end, wishing them good luck with their mission, had brought the reality of the situation crashing down around him. Knowing he would lying to his friends and colleagues while being saddled with the responsibility of a child for an indefinite amount of time made Aizawa's stomach twist in guilty, anxious knots.Hizashi's brow furrowed at the lack of response and opened one eye to peek at his husband's gloomy expression.
"Hey. Sho?" he gently prodded, "Give me a shout out here and tell me what's up."Shouta mumbled something under his breath, too garbled for Mic to comprehend.
"Babe, you're gonna have to turn up the volume a little. Couldn't hear a word of that."Shouta took a deep, shaky breath and said, "Are you sure we did the right thing back there? Taking in Hitoshi, I mean."
At this, Mic's eyes shot open and he quickly sat up straight to join Shouta on the edge of the couch.
"Of course we did, Sho!" He exclaimed, a look of disbelief on his face. "Why on earth would you say something like that?""Because..." Shouta paused and looked up so his dark eyes locked on Mic's green ones. "What if we're not cut out for this? It's bad enough we have to hide all this from the world and pretend to be on some top secret assignment. But what if..."
He took another deep breath. "What if we can't protect him? Let alone be good... guardians for him."Shouta faltered mid-sentence, not ready or willing to label himself as a "parent" just yet.
Hizashi's eyes softened and he pulled his husband in for a tight hug, planting a soft kiss on top of Shouta's head."Shouta, listen to me. I told you I didn't think there was any place more suited to protect and care for Hitoshi than with us. And I meant that. I trust you with my life and you've protected me so many times. So I have no doubt you'd move heaven and earth to protect Hitoshi in the same way. And as for not being a good enough guardian..."
Hizashi paused to place a knowing emphasis on the word before continuing.
"No one, and I mean no one, is ever truly ready for a kid, no matter how they come about. I understand you're worried; I am too! And its inevitable there'll be some record scratches along the way. But we've got each other through it all. I have total faith in you."Aizawa begrudgingly leaned into his husbands embrace. Hizashi could be a real pain sometimes and stubborn to a fault, but he always knew how to calm Shouta's anxieties, and for that he was grateful.
"Besides," Hizashi continued, pulling away slightly to look Aizawa in the eye. "No matter how gruff you may act, I know deep, deep down you're just as excited to have the kid here with us as I am."
He winked and gave Shouta a quick peck before straightening up, goofy grin back in place.
"Oh! That reminds me. We haven't opened the check we got from the Commission yet! Why don't we crack that sucker open and see how much they're shelling out for our 'special mission?"
