"Are ya sure you know what you're doing?" Hizashi asked, nervously checking over his outfit in the mirror again.
"For the fifth time Hizashi, yes." Midnight groaned as she leaned against the doorway to the living room, Hitoshi on her hip. "You've both shown me where to find all the supplies, given me every emergency contact, and explained how to change a diaper in excruciating detail. I think I'll survive."
Hizashi whined anxiously as he readjusted the rolled cuffs of his shirt and fluffed his hair. He'd been preening for the better part of an hour, trying to delay leaving. He may have been the one who suggested going out that weekend, but now that the moment was here...
"We just want to make sure." The Erasure Hero piped up from behind her, dressed in all black as usual and fiddling with his keys. "We'll be gone for a couple of hours and anything can happen. Did you know it's statistically more likely–"
"Shouta, I swear. If you quote another horrifying statistic about dying in some babysitting-related catastrophe, I won't hesitate to hurt you."
Choosing to remain unscathed and conscious for the rest of the night, Shouta promptly closed his mouth. Mic finished readjusting his half-bun for the last time before turning to Nemuri.
"How do I look?"
"Like an overprotective father that needs to leave so the babysitter can do her job." She snarked, shifting Hitoshi into a more comfortable position. The baby was oblivious to the situation, chewing away on a new teething toy and leaving little bite marks with the two teeth he'd already cut.
Hizashi huffed as marched past her, heading for the garage door. Shouta silently followed, with Nemuri and Hitoshi bringing up the rear. They grabbed their jackets and turned back to say one last goodbye to Hitoshi. Hizashi gave him a kiss on the forehead while Shouta ruffled his hair.
"Bye-bye, Toshi! Be good for Nemuri. You'll have a lot of fun jammin' with her!"
"We'll be home soon. Try not to cause too much trouble, alright?"
Hitoshi only burbled around the toy, giving a small giggle as they spoke. Hizashi felt his heart break a little at the thought of leaving him behind. He opened his mouth to say something more, but Nemuri cut him off at the pass.
"Loudmouth, do I need to use my quirk on you so Shouta can drag you out of here? Because I will!"
Hizashi snapped his mouth shut, pouting. Shouta ushered the anxious blonde away and out into the garage, firmly shutting the door behind them.
"Papa? Dada?" Hitoshi questioned when they disappeared from sight, looking up at Nemuri for answers. She smiled and gave him a little bounce.
"It's okay, cupcake. You can play with Auntie Nemuri until those two knuckleheads come home! Doesn't that sound like fun?"
Hitoshi only whined in response, wiggling and reaching for the door Shouta and Hizashi had left through. Midnight tucked him to her chest and carried him back into the living room. Mizuki, who'd been watching from her cat tree, silently padded towards Nemuri and fixed her with a look that could only be described as suspicious.
"Don't worry, girl. I'm just here to watch him." Nemuri said soothingly, sitting on the living room floor and offering the back of her hand for the cat to sniff. "There we go! Everything's going to be just fine."
Hitoshi, on the other hand, was less convinced. While Midnight was distracted by Mizuki, he squirmed out of her grip and set off crawling towards the garage, babbling unhappily.
"And just where do you think you're going?" Midnight asked teasingly as she twisted around to snag Hitoshi by the seat of his pants, dragging him back towards her on all fours. Hitoshi whined in protest, scrabbling at the carpet in an another attempt to get away and pitifully calling out for his Papa and Dada.
