Last night, after we came back from our wonderful date-on-a-sea-coast, both of us had our dinner in silence.
I was quite grateful for Mr Rishaad's absence.
He would've definitely understood that our evening was a disaster as it was very apparent on our faces.
And I couldn't pretend anymore that night.
Grandma seemed a little disappointed seeing us like that while Azlan's mom seemed happy.
Wasn't that obvious?
After dinner, Azlan broke his silence.
He said he wanted to discuss a few things with me.
I just nodded my head, wondering what he wanted to discuss after the heated conversation we already had in the evening.
He locked the bedroom door before asking me to sit on the sofa that was kept in the corner of the room. And then he took the position opposite to me.
Since quite a havoc was stirred only within two days of our marriage , he came to a conclusion that we needed to have proper planning.
Even though I was in no mood to talk to him, I had to because this was important. We couldn't just go on like that.
So, we started discussing little details regarding how we should be maintaining a facade in front of the whole family.
For example, I must know where he's going and vice versa . That is, we don't go anywhere without letting each other know.
Though I hardly trust him with that.
He asked me to discuss things with him before taking any action, basically before talking to his dad about anything.
And then I asked him to explain his family to not embarrass me in front of people, thus putting me into a difficult situation.
He looked at me for a second and then nodded. He didn't revert back and that surprised me.
And then the list went on.
Finally I brought up the room issue.
He seemed confused.
But yes, it was the most important thing that needed a proper discussion!
" What about the room ?"
"What room?"
"This room!"
"You don't mean to say that you want to move out and stuff do you?"
"Of course not! I'm not an idiot Azlan! Probably you can't seem to notice, but we don't even have a proper sleeping arrangement!"
" That's not a problem. You sleep on the bed and I'll sleep on the couch."
"No ! You can't sleep on the couch for months if this thing goes on for that long. I know how uncomfortable it is. "
"So, you sleep on the couch then."
"No, if I say it must be uncomfortable for you, it automatically applies to me as well."
" So you want us to sleep… I mean lie on the same bed?"
"NOO!"
"Are you crazy? What do you want then? See if you want me to bring in another bed for you, that's impossible!"
" Do you know nothing about mattresses, you silly head? "
"Mattress?"
"Yes, lay it down on the floor. That would be enough."
"Not possible! Servants come to clean the room everyday , if any of them find an extra mattress in our room, they'd just go and gossip around. And then it wouldn't take long for the news to reach my dad's ears. So, not possible!"
"But I can place it in the cupboard as soon as I get up!"
"No, no! There's still a high risk. What if someone pops up into our room at night out of an emergency. Even if you attempt to hide it under the bed at that time, some keen eye would definitely notice it! And it's very normal that when you're woken up from a deep sleep, you won't be hundred percent careful to take care of minute details even if you try hiding it inside the cupboard. So no! "
" Oh God, can you slow down! So, what's to be done? "
" There are just two solutions. Now it's totally upon you to choose what you like. Either you sleep on the couch or on the bed, beside me—"
" Nooo wayyy!!! "
" Just listen, you overreacting woman! We can make a barrier between us using the larger pillows. None of us will cross it. So both of us can sleep peacefully. "
" How cliché Azlan. And how do I believe that you won't cross the barrier?"
"As I said, it's up to you now. And mine is a king sized bed, so there are less chances to cross the line if we sleep on corners."
Give a note to his reference, "mine". Of course!
"Erm. "
"Since your feminism and equality for gender principles doesn't allow both of us to keep sleeping on the couch, I gave you a nice option."
And then he gave a victorious smile.
" It's not a nice option! I'm not convinced."
" Alright then keep thinking unless you come up with a new one. I'm going to sleep now. "
" Oh wait it's not over yet! "
" What now? "
" I need a room divider. "
" What? Why?"
"Because I can't keep dressing up in the bathroom. Moreover I feel I'm going to catch a cold soon because of my undried hair."
As soon as I mentioned the word hair he glanced at my head with a surprised look on his face.
" Your hair?"
" Yes my hair, now don't be an idiot to ask me if I have hair on my head."
" Ermmm no, of course you might . It's just that I haven't seen them, so—
" You don't even have to! Now get me a divider as soon as possible. It shall be useful for you too. So that you won't have to roam around the whole room without clothes. There'll be a corner for it."
" See, I'll do what —"
" Ok please, I know what you are going to say. So don't continue. You asked me to sit and discuss things with you and it's done. I don't want any more conversation now! "
" FINE ! "
And he went to his side of the bed, switched off the lights on his side and was off to sleep.
I was still in a dilemma about the sleeping arrangement, so I spent another night on the couch.
Might go on till I find a solution to this because the idea of sleeping beside him was just too weird, even after placing barriers!
