The Tale Behind Violet's Awakening, With a Hint of a Flashback.
Violet Summers. Blonde hair, grey eyes, pink lips, personality... She was perfect and finally, she was his. Oh, Cedric could have stared at his ceiling for hours just repeating the fact she was finally his official girlfriend if it weren't for his need for meals. Christmas break was in a week, how was he to bear being away from her just after they had just gotten together.
Clingy, Cedric. Don't be clingy, his mind repeat over in his head, but it was there alongside the other voice chanting, 'she's my girlfriend!', and was drowned out. Cedric knew he had to be careful with this, the pacing was key. He was not about to have wasted a year and a half of pining over her for it to be ruined by him being glued to her side. They had been dating for a week and a half and he was still amazed by it. This was it, she was the one. Violet was the perfect girl for him and this whole being her boyfriend thing, it would have to be as perfect as her if he wanted to keep things this way.
"Still not over the fact she agreed to be your girlfriend?" Cedric's roommate Eddie asked from two beds down, his nose in his homework, not even bothering to look up at him. Cedric had always liked Eddie and they used to be friends but things had changed this year and Cedric couldn't place just why. Eddie was a good guy, with green eyes and dark hair, a slender form and small build, who was constantly chatting in class and doing his work as homework. It was OWL year, so you'd think one would be more careful about paying attention, but from that, Cedric knew his marks were good, and who was he to judge?
Cedric shook his head, "I don't think I am..."
"Is she your first girlfriend, or are you just really odd?" Eddie continued, his tone casual, with something harsh beneath it. Cedric grimaced at this and sat up against his headboard, Eddie was... rude.
"Not my first girlfriend, no, I'm just enthusiastic and appreciative." Cedric nodded in response, trying to contain his snark before this turned into a fight. But of course, it slipped right through. It had been four months of this for Cedric and the worst part was living with him. He wouldn't take it any longer. "Excuse me for being in euphoria, it's clearly something you don't take part in much."
"I need to focus on this," Eddie replied, his eyes still glued to his work, "I don't have time for girls and such."
"You seem to have time for them during lectures." Cedric folded his arms and stood up, ready to leave the room so that this wouldn't escalate. "I think maybe you should focus on your work, Eddie, but maybe at the right time, is all I have to say."
"Shut up, Diggory!" Eddie shouted, his head now raised from his book. It escalated much too quickly for Cedric to even comprehend and he just stopped there, listening to what Eddie had to say in his rage. It was, in fact, obviously an overreaction on Eddie's part, especially when he was the one to be rude in the first place. "You think you're smart when you're not. I see right through you so don't pretend that your grades will get you anywhere to be successful and living well. You're lucky I don't curse you right now for being such a dick. Violet won't be with you long, I guarantee you that, she'll see what I see and finally realize that you're just another pretty face."
So this was about Violet. Oh, Merlin, he should have read the signs. Eddie was jealous of Cedric's euphoria, how he now was dating Violet, eliminating Eddie's chances. The reason he was such a prick this year was that he knew Cedric and Violet had been getting closer and... this was only a jealous rage, nothing more or less. He couldn't help Eddie, there was no point in even trying, so Cedric slipped out of his dorm room and dumped down the steps to the Hufflepuff common rooms.
