Chapter: 5- In Which You Learn More About Her Family

Saturday, December 6, 20**

So just what did I do to end up in this situation? Sitting in front of Pierce, the meanest nerd that ever lived. I honestly don't know but I was pretty sure mom had something to do with it. I wasn't even scheduled to have my first tutor session with him in a week and somehow I was here!

I had my journal in front of me surrounded by my math and other class notebooks, and a pen in my hand.

"Will you just hurry up and answer the question already! I mean seriously my baby cousin could answer it in less time than you and he's TWO!"

Sighing for the umpteenth time I struggled not to reach across the table and strangle him. It wasn't like I couldn't answer it because I didn't want to, it was just that I didn't really understand it and with him yelling at me every five seconds I couldn't even wrap my mind around it!

"Hey! Are you done yet?!"

Blowing out a deep breath I wrote one last thing before slamming my pencil down and handing him the sheet. Watching as his eyes skimmed the paper a deep crease beginning to form between his eyes.

Setting the paper down he took a moment to relax his muscles before interlocking his hands in front of him and looking at me.

"You know I have one question."

I nodded my head.

"Do you even pay attention in class?"

Gasping in shock I looked at him offended he'd even say such a thing. Though not really wanted to talk to him I once more nodded my head with more vigorousness this time.

Giving me a questioning look he looked up at me through an eye. He looked like he didn't believe me and I was about to say something in defense when he spoke.

"Then why don't you know how to do this? I mean seriously you got every single problem wrong except for what 2+2 was and actually writing your name on the paper."

Embarrassed at how bad he seemed to be making my failed attempt at doing math I looked down at my hands, which I were reflexively playing with. I didn't want to seem nervous or anything and I don't exactly know why I was just sitting here not uttering a word in protest as I was listening to him critique my work. Sliding the paper back in front of me he again interlaced his hands looking me in the eye.

"Do you really pay attention in class?" He seemed to be seriously doubting me now and I didn't know how to take this.

Sighing I exhaled trying to calm my nerves. "I'm absolutely positive I pay attention in class." There this time I actually spoke that's something...right?

"Okay then."

"Okay."

Reaching up I began to rub my temple, trying to soothe the oncoming headache. I then looked down at the paper in front of me. Squinting I began to wish I hadn't forgotten my glasses at home.

"Did you just squint?!"

"Huh?"

"Did you just squint?"

Looking up at him I was sure I looked confused. Just what exactly did not get past this guy? Deciding not to answer him though I went back to solving the problem.

"Hey! Are you listening to me?!"

Don't answer just keep on doing the problem you can solve this. You can do this.

"You wear glasses don't you?! I bet you do."

Betting isn't something to be involved in so I won't answer that.
