When you arrived at the pasture that kept all the school's horses you immediately spotted Shoji lying on the ground. You noticed that he was turning his head to look at his belly and you realized that this was indeed a serious case of colic.

You ran to the gate and quickly entered the pasture, not even truly registering that the guy who had come to warn you was still following behind.

You clipped the rope to Shoji's halter and pulled a little to encourage him to get up.

"Come on Shoji! You have to get up!" You called out to him, knowing full well that he couldn't understand your words. When all you were able to do was get him to stretch his neck, the guy who was with you stood at the horse's back and started to tap him on the hindquarters with his hand.

He tapped softly at first but the longer it took, the harder he started tapping until finally Shoji was motivated to get up. He shook the dirt off of him and scraped the ground with his front leg, indicating that he was planning on laying down again already.

"Oh no, you don't!" You said as you started walking and pulled the black horse with you. Slowly he followed behind you and you felt relief at the fact that he was now up and moving. The relief was short-lived however as the gravity of the situation caught back up to you.

You pulled out your phone only to realize that you hadn't put the vet's number in your contacts. Sighing frustratedly you looked around, wondering what to do. It was then that you noticed that the guy was still there walking to your right, a little behind you.

"What's the matter?" He asked as your panicky eyes met his. You were both still walking, pulling a reluctant Shouji along and two other horses following the three of you curiously.

"Could you go to the..." You started and then realized it would be very difficult to explain where the notebook with all the important information was.

"I'll walk him, you go get what you need." The guy offered and you happily agreed. As you handed him the lead rope however, you wondered if this would be okay.

He seemed to sense your hesitation and assured you. "I won't let him lie down."

You nodded curtly at his words and ran back to the gate to then run over to the clubroom that was inside the stable, next to the tack room.

You quickly dialed the primary vet's number and waited for him to pick up. When he did, you quickly explained the situation you had going on.

"I can't make it for another three hours. Call the other vet first and get back to me if she can't make it." Was the answer you got, making you once again realize that this was a serious situation and that you had acted accordingly.

You called the next vet and she told you she'd be there as soon as she had finished with her current client, which wouldn't take long. On your way back to the pasture you called your the club president, who then told you she'd also call the advising teacher and thanked you for your fast handling of the situation.

When you arrived back at the field you saw that Shoji was still being led around by the guy. Both of them seemed at ease with each other and you didn't try to suppress a sigh of relief. You walked to intercept their path and called out to the guy.

"Thank you! The vet should be on her way and a teacher as well." You told him as you reached out your hand to take the lead rope back from him.

"Good, I have to get back to my dorm." He said before petting Shoji's neck. "Good luck."

You didn't know who of the two of you he was wishing good luck, but you could only stare after him as he disappeared as suddenly and quietly as he had appeared. Shoji scraping the ground again brought you back to the situation at hand and you quickly started walking, before he had the chance to try and lay down again.
