Starcourt Mall stood proudly within Hawkins as a beacon for the teenagers of the small town, as a way to connect to all new fashion trends and to spend their summer just roaming aimlessly, being young and care free. But downtown Hawkins suffered upon the arrival, shutting down most local businesses with all business shifting to the newly built trend. If you couldn't be found at Hawkins Local Pool, chances are you'll be found here. Summer brought upon much more time to actually have fun and do the things we normally would, living with absolutely no worries expect what you would do that day with your free time. The roar of Billy's Camaro announced our arrival at the mall with his music blasting as his usual way of getting around Hawkins."So this is it? I'm not surprised Harrington got a job here...." I slapped his arm playfully before getting out of the car while pushing my sunglasses to rest on top of my head, eyeing the very crowded parking lot, the joyful smiles and chatter of teenage girls just finishing a shopping spree that more likely than not was payed for on mommy and daddy's salary.
"Scoops Ahoy has an appeal to it! The name screams...... adventure?" I shrugged from the lack of a word coming to mind to describe the new ice cream parlor thats become incredibly popular since opening. Steve swears it's because of all the ladies who flock there to see him in his cute, little outfit and messy hair underneath the sailors hat. And well, I didn't want to bruise his ego. So I said, sure. Why not.
"Your idea of adventure is horrible then Lana. Have I taught you nothing? Do I need to be more...... adventurous with our time?" His subtle smirk and wink did wonders for the way my body reacted to his suggestive comment, knowing all too well what he meant.
"Okay, don't cream your pants right here in the parking lot thinking like that Hargrove. The cream comes later." I walked right past him with a sway of my hip, looking back with a wink of my own to see his humored smile. He finally followed closely into the busy mall and once we managed inside, my eyes traveled seemingly everywhere i possibly could, eyeing everything in sight. So many places!
"Is this cream coming from the uh.... Geeks Ahoy? Because that's very erotic thinking of you Henderson. I'm impressed." I rolled my eyes with a tug to his arm to keep up, hearing his husky laughter within my ears like the most satisfying sound on the planet. The Gap was busy as I figured it would be, noting just how many different places there was to enjoy. Hot Dog On A Stick, Burger King, Hawkins Heroes, Claire's, Wicks N Sticks, Jazzercise, The new Cinema, and my eyes finally landed on Radio Shack, thinking back to Bob and how much I miss that guy and his smarts when it came to gadgets. He could make anything if he put his mind to it. And he's a hero.
"There will be no cream if you don't move your ass a little faster sir." Suddenly, his arms snaked around my waist and hauled me up into the air with a shriek ringing out through the long walk ways of the mall, seeing numerous people eyeing us in curiosity. Billy was known as Hawkins resident play boy, after Hop of course. So when we actually started dating, it was a shock to so many girls. Me included. I never thought we would progress together the way the we have. Breaking down the walls he's had years to build is such a hard task to accomplish. But we had all the time in the world to discover each other, together.
"Ahoy you two lovebirds! Would you like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me? I'll be your Captain, Steve Harrington." Today was Steve's first day and from the moment Billy finally let me down and his words filled my ears, I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. The outfit was nothing he would ever actually wear if he didn't have to. It absolutely ruined his 'perfect hair'. Which was a huge thing for him, since he is the reigning king for best hair of course.
"Okay.... I didn't think it was going to be this bad. But damn Harrington, you've set a new record of bad." I stomped on Billy's foot with a humorous laugh escaping both of us upon the mere look on Steve's face. He was completely overjoyed to be here. You could just tell.
"You should have absolutely no problem getting a girl to go out with you Steve." The look he sent me was one full of pure annoyance, only fueling my humor more. Dad Steve got a job for the summer since he graduated, claiming he wanted to know more of the working mans way before settling on an option for the future. He just had absolutely no faith in himself. And that's the problem.
"Well your kids will definitely be in here all the time. Speaking of, Dustin will be back in two weeks. So be prepared." Steve had become dad of the group since the moment babysitting became his title. They dubbed me overbearing mom. Such a perfect title.
"Well he'll get to see my glamorous job then huh?" I grinned a little once Billy and I looked over all the ice cream choices, deciding we just wanted a day of fun. Something random we normally wouldn't do. Like coming to the mall.
"Well I definitely want Strawberry Delight!" Before I could even finish the sentence for Steve to plainly hear, he had two scoops of that exact ice cream ready for me with a little smile, handing it to me.
"It's your favorite." He brushed it off from the questioning look upon my face once Billy got what he wanted, his comment throwing me off completely. He never did forget anything about me.
"Rocky Road? Why does that actually fit you Billy?" He rolled his eyes with a mock smile on his face once we went to sit down at a empty booth. The whole time we sat there, I couldn't stop staring at Billy and just the simple gestures he always does. The way he talked or the way he would look at me. Seeing him actually laid back and enjoying himself, was a true vision I could get used to.
"I'm glad we did this. Just us and the open world! Hawkins may not be much. But with you, I just feel like it's endless, the things we could do." Billy simply smiled from my words, taking the last bite of his delicious ice cream that I managed to convince him to give me some of.
"Well lucky for you, I don't have any plans of ditching this place. Especially you. I'm here for the long haul. So get ready." His little toothy smile and knowing eyes, had me feeling every single pleasure induced emotion all at once. And just how much I love him, could never be expressed perfectly into words. In such a short time, he had become my world. And gave me a love that no other person could measure up to.
