The sounds of everyone around me setting up for the inevitable horrors coming our way, was distracting me from the many thoughts coursing through my mind. And the shrill sounds of pain and screams enveloping my senses, screams that sounded like distant memories. Or ones to come. Every single minute that passed by meant that he was closer and closer, ready to attack each and every one us that was protecting Eleven. But I wouldn't stop. That's for certain. We've come this far. And we're going to make it out of this. Somehow, someway.
"Will you be okay here Lan?" I slowly stood with the help of Steve with the soreness in my leg seeming to ease more and more. They needed to help Hop, Joyce and Murray close this damn gate once again, and it was killing me how divided we all had to be in order to finish this off. To stop the Flayer, the Russians. I just wanted everyone safe. But that feeling of impending doom, nagged at me more and more.
"I'll be fine. Just keep my brother safe. Please Steve. I'd rather him be outside these walls than in here when that monster comes. And.... keep yourself safe to Steve. Who else would I annoy?" He shot me a little smile, but complete hesitance seemed to slow the process of him wanting to leave. He knew I was battling so many things that I honestly couldn't put into exact words. But I had to do this. To stay and fight. For my family. For the love of my life.
"You know I will. If something happens, get on the walkie. We need to know you guys are safe." I suddenly hugged him without thinking about it what so ever, paralyzing fear consuming me from the inside out of sudden realization of what was about to happen. Everything that was on the line at the moment. It was absolutely terrifying.
"It'll be okay.... don't worry." We slowly pulled apart as I hugged Dustin with a little kiss placed on his forehead, like I used to do countless times when he was little and holding back my tears with all my might once I watched them leave the mall.
"Lana....." I froze on the spot the minute Will's voice rung in my ears like a distant echo, feeling the hairs stand on end on the back of my neck, the feeling I knew all too well. And what it meant. He's here. The thunderous sounds and shakes of his movements, seemed to rock the mall and rattle the glass roofing above the food court, my panicked eyes growing wide from the sight of Eleven, Max and Mike standing in the middle of the court, and the sound of the now cracking glass threatening to fall right on them.
"Will, go hide! Now!" He ran to Jonathan, Nancy and Lucas while I practically zoomed towards the others to shove them under a little alcove under one of the big plant displays so it wouldn't see us. Just as we managed to duck under, the Flayer came crashing through the glass, the sounds of it connecting with the tiled floor so loud and horrible. The feeling grew stronger once I realized the Flayer wasn't the only one here.
"Billy's here.... he's outside." I slowly peeked my head over the wooden alcove, noting the Flayer was stomping around from store to store, seeming to analyze every single aspect it could. I took a deep breath, before making the decision I knew I needed to do.
