The  bright morning sun peeks over the horizon. I turn over to face away from the window, hoping for five more minutes of peace before the sun fully rises. My alarm clock ringing pulls me out, and I turn onto my back reaching over to slap it off. My hand grazes it, and I slap down, the beeping finally coming to a stop.

I take deep breaths in the silence, and blow my bangs out of my eyes. I've already procrastinated enough, so I pull myself out of bed. The floor is freezing on my warm feet from being under the blankets, so I grab fuzzy socks from my dresser. I pull my hair into a ponytail and turn towards my window.

I pull the blinds open, and the sun leaks into my room, brightening everything up. My eyes fall on my trunk beside my bed, and my heart skips a beat. I forgot what today is. The first day at Hogwarts! I quickly pick out an outfit for the special occasion. I grab a pale pink tank top and some mom jeans. Once I'm dressed, I head to the bathroom to put on some natural makeup for the day.

I slide into the room, my socks slipping on the tile floor almost causing me to fall. Luckily I grab on to the sink before I fall, and balance myself. I pull the elastic out of my hair, and brush through the messy blonde waves. My bangs fall in my face, and since they are being especially annoying today I pin them back with two butterfly hair clips.

I randomly cut my bangs last month after having a mental breakdown at the fact that I'm turning sixteen this year. I know, I'm so stable. It was a random decision, but I loved having bangs. Since then they've grown out to be cheek length, and I actually like them a lot this way.

I finish my makeup, and shove all of my toiletries into a small bag and then proceed to place it in my suitcase. It almost doesn't fit with all the clothes I have, so I have to leave out my second favorite pair of fuzzy socks.

I grab my wand off the bedside table, and start to hop down the stairs with my trunk in tow. It's very hard, especially since the stairs are spiral and steep. If only I had thought to go down our other set of stairs.

My favorite movie growing up was The Princess Diaries, solely because our bedrooms were very similar with the spiral metal stairs. I remember pretending that I was Mia, and that one day my grandmother would tell me I was the princess. Instead, McGonagall came and told me I was a witch. A bit different than I dreamed of, but nonetheless still exciting.

I finally reach the bottom of the stairs, and place my trunk beside the door. Mum and Dad are already outside trying to get my owl Flurry into the car. Even from inside I can hear her squawking as they struggle to fit the cage in the car. I let out a chuckle, and run back upstairs to say goodbye to my bedroom until Christmas holidays.

I walk into my room, and glance around at the decorated walls. Every inch of my room is decorated somehow. I walk over to the picture of me and my best friends standing outside Hogwarts. The picture starts to move, recognizing that I'm looking at it. I stare at myself in the picture, tilting my head back laughing. Maya and Jocelyn are also laughing, right beside me as always. I look to the picture next to it, and a small  smile forms on my lips.

It's very young me standing next to my trunk right before getting on the train. My hand is fiddling with my charm bracelet, and just seeing it in the picture my hand instinctively falls to it. My grandmother gave it to me on my first day at Hogwarts, and each school year she gives me a new charm for it. This years is a small boat, and I smile at it fondly.

The last picture I look at is of me and my sister Molly. She has her hand wrapped around my neck in a choke hold, and I'm jokingly screaming. I remember that day. We went to an enchanted garden, and had a picnic. It was beautiful, and even though that was two years ago I still remember what it felt like vividly.

My sister graduated Hogwarts last year, and I'm kind of scared that I don't have anyone to protect me anymore. I know I have Maya and Jocelyn, my two closest friends in the world, but the sisterly protection is so much different than friendly protection. And of course I have the Weasley twins, who are like older brothers even though we are the same age. But sometimes I feel like they're who I need to be protected from.

"Sofia!" I hear my mom call, and I turn towards the hallway, "time to go!"

I graze my fingers across my bed, and click the door shut. "See you soon," I whisper softly, and run down the stairs. I shove my wand into my back pocket, and grasp my trunk. It's very heavy, but I lug it into the back of the car. I flop into my seat, panting for air.

"Are you excited for fifth year darling?" Dad asks, as he revs the engine up.

"Yeah, I'm excited. I can't believe that I'm already in fifth year."

"Remember to study for your O.W.L.s,"Dad remarks, sternly, glancing back at me through the rearview mirror. I gulp, my stomach tying itself in a knot. The O.W.L.s make me very nervous. My future basically relies on how I do on them.

I grip the side of the car nervously, watching the hills of London go soaring by. At last, we pull up to Kings Head Station.
