Red and orange leaves litter the ground. With every step we take, the ground makes a familiar crunch. The trees barely have any leaves on them, to my disappointment. I always wish that the leaves would stay on the trees, they look naked without anything on them.

Maya plops down beside a tree, and I follow suit. It's a warm October day, which is unusual. It normally gets cold quick, but that isn't the case today. Students are scattered amongst the grounds, soaking up the fresh air.

"Wow, we have a ton of charms homework. Flitwick barely ever gives us any," She remarks, staring down at her papers scatted in the grass.

"That's because you spent the whole period talking with Lee Jordan," I laugh, and she thumps my forehead.

We get to work on our homework, and the fall breeze sends a shiver down my spine. I can already tell this isn't going to be a very productive study period since Maya looks fidgety.

"How many days until your birthday again?" Maya asks, twirling a strand of dark hair from her ponytail.

       "Fourteen."

"Oh my God, I haven't gotten you a present yet!" Maya exclaims, slapping her hand over her heart.

"Don't worry about it. Worry about your 'ton of homework' as you said a couple minutes ago."

She rolls her eyes and goes back to working on charms. Finally, we both finish and head inside. As we walk through the hall, we see a crowd of people looking at something. Maya and I stand against a wall, hoping that they'll move and we can see what it is.

After a couple minutes, a few of the students leave the hall, and I can spot two redheads in the center of the commotion. I roll my eyes as I look over at Fred, and grip my books a little bit tighter.

Ever since that night at the common room, now whenever I see Fred butterflies come to my stomach and I feel all warm inside. I don't like it. I look over at Maya and she's glancing between Fred and I with a smirk growing on her lips.

"You like Fred!" She says, a bit louder than I would like. I slap my hand over her mouth, and look around to see if anyone heard. Luckily no one seems to be paying attention, so I let out a sigh.

"I don't. That night was just him being nice," I start staring off at him in the distance, "and I guess he has really soft hair that smells like coconut and dark eyes that I melt into..."

I slap my hand over my mouth this time and Maya raises her eyebrows at me. "I knew it you do have a-" she yells, before Fred comes over interrupting her speech.

"Is something on my face? you were staring at me over there Sofia," He jokes, and I let out an awkward laugh.

"You're so full of yourself Frederick," I joke, his full name coming out of my mouth, "for your information I was zoning out in your direction."

"Frederick?" He laughs, walking back over to the group of people.

"Okay, so maybe I do have a crush on him."

Sorry for the short chapter this week! Don't worry though, next chapter is a big one!! And the next, and the next...haha! x
