Fire spits out from the broken engine as bits and pieces of flying metal hit it over and over again. The pilots voice is saying to stay calm over and over but I'm far from calm. I knew this was a bad idea! I just knew it!
------
"Chloe? Chloe are you alright?" I feel a soft touch on my arm. I jump up in my seat and look around. I'm still on the plane but it's not crashing. My brother Jake is beside me and everything is going to be fine.
"Y-yea. I'm fine." I finally manage to get out. Jake slumps back into his chair, looking relieved and at the same time bored.
"I thought we would be there already," he whines "I mean, London can't be that far."
"Wow, when mom said you needed help at geography I didn't know it was this bad!"
"Chloe I'm serious!" My younger brother's tone gets angry "it shouldn't be taking us this long!"
"Oh quit your whining! If you're so worried why don't you just ask her?" I say, nodding towards the flight attendant who was collecting everyone's garbage.
Jake looks up at me with big eyes "can you do it?"
"Fine." I glare at him "you're such a baby."
Jake just shrugs but looks satisfied with himself. He takes out his IPod and starts playing one of his stupid games.
Sighing, I try to get the flight attendants attention. "Umm excuse me?" No response. "Excuse me!" I raise my voice a little louder and her head snaps over to where I'm seated "how much longer until London?"
The lady checks her watch quickly and looks back up at me in a brisk movement "two hours." She says and continues her conversation with a young man in a seat near her.
"Happy?" I say to Jake who just nods, completely ignoring everything that just happened. I huff and try to fall back asleep, hoping this time my slumber won't be filled with nightmares of the plane crashing and bringing us all to our horrible deaths.
------
"Chloe WAKE UP!!! We're here! We're in London!" Jake's distant voice makes it through to a dream I was having about a puppy eating a giant gummy bear.
"Huh?"
"Oh just c'mon! The plane's almost empty!" Jake pulls at my arm.
"I'm coming I'm coming! Can you get our bags from the overhead compartment?"
The tenth grader moans but gets up anyways to retrieve our bags. I gather my stuff from the surrounding seats; headphones here, gum there. Until finally I've got everything stuffed into my carry-on bag. Jake got his bag down and we were ready to go.
"If you don't calm down I'm gonna tell everyone when we get back how immature you really are." That shut him up. The thing about my brother is that whenever he's around family (mom, me, dad, MOM) he tends to act like a child when he's really 14. But when a friend is around he becomes all cool and independent. It's probably the thing I hate most about him. He's fake.
We finally leave the plane, receiving a few glares from the crew members, and head off to get the rest of our luggage; Jake rambling about the school and who we will be staying with. I honestly can't stand it.
Arriving at baggage claim I soon realize that everyone here is probably gonna have one of those to-die-for accents that make me absolutely melt.
I'm regretting coming even more.
"Jake can you get the bags?" I ask but realize that my younger brother was already trying to haul my black and white suitcase off of the conveyor belt. I laugh to myself and run over to help him.
"Thanks Chlo." He says, wiping sweat off his forehead. I just shake my head again and bring my suitcase over to a bench where I sit down and take out my phone.
God I wish my parents never forced me to join the exchange program. But of course, little Jakie-poo couldn't handle it on his own so he needs his much more mature sister to come along and make sure he doesn't blow anything up. And of course the mature sister didn't get a say in things. She just got handed a plane ticket and off she went to London of all places.
"Umm excuse me?" Says a male voice with the most amazing British accent I've ever heard "do you happen to be Chloe and Jake Campbell?" I turn around and almost fall over, stunned.
Standing in front of me is probably the most gorgeous guy I've ever seen. His golden-brown hair is tousled and his warm, chocolate-brown eyes are melting my heart. He has on a huge smile that crinkles his eyes perfectly, making him seem even more perfect.
"Ye-" I get cut off by my immature brother.
"Yeah that's us! Can we go now?"
Yep. Defiantly regretting this trip.
