//takes place post canon. Hinted spoiler, but nothing big or anything. Mostly just insecure thoughts with a cute lil confession at the end.
//Did a kinda humanoid Griffin reader. Imagine... Uh.... An aarakocra with hairy, leonine arms instead of feathers. And you're tall and broad too. Sorry, sorry sksksksk.
//Oh, oh! Also, you compete in flying competitions!

Brave. Strong. Unshakable.

A Griffin was supposed to be all of these things, and more. You looked at your reflection in the mirror, your Golden gaze tracking over your features. Your soft (h/c) feathers lead down the top of your head, trailing further down the back of your neck and to your wings, which were tucked behind your back. You quickly looked away from them, embarrassed by their ruffled appearance.
The feathers thinned out on your neck, leading to a patchwork of fine Golden hair that covered most of your chest and arms below your shirt. It was always something you'd been hyper conscious of, and some of the elves in grade school had bullied you for it. Perhaps that's why you were so nervous.
Ian had changed all in the span of a day. Before, he had been so quiet and reserved, and you wouldn't dare approach him; not with your towering, broad form and intimidating gaze. Admittedly, you thought your crush on him would go entirely unnoticed. Or worse, unreturned. You hadn't asked him yet... But surely even if he turned you down he'd be nice about it.
You let out a sigh, running a taloned hand through your feathery mane and stepping away from the mirror.
"Yo, Griffiiiin, wassup man?" One of your friends asked, and you tried your best not to jump as his hand landed on your shoulder. "Gettin' hyped up for a comp?"
"Um... Uh, yeah." You said, blatantly lying. You didn't have a competition for another three weeks. He just nodded and moved to the back stall of the bathroom, reminding you that you should probably find Ian before he left. You rushed out of the bathroom, looking around for him in as descreet a way as possible... Meaning that everyone your steely gaze landed on flinched and turned to look at you immediately. You huffed in frustration, heading outside to see if he was waiting for a ride. If your memory serves correctly, he usually got picked up by his big brother.
You saw the flash of a pegasus in flight as a van speeded away, cursing your bad luck as you unfurled your wings and took off after it. In your rush to catch up, you began calling out his name in the hopes that his brother would stop.
"Ian! Iaaan, wait!" You called out, and after a minute or so of pursuit, the van jolted to a stop and Ian and his big brother hopped out. Ian's big brother hopped atop the van, shielding his eyes to see you better, and Ian seemed to be gripping his staff in apprehension.
When you landed, Ian's brother stepped up to you, his chest puffed out a bit. "To what do we owe the pleasure?"
You tilted your head slightly, then glanced over to Ian. His brother moved to block your sight, although he had to stand on his tiptoes to do so. He looked ready to deck you and run off with Ian, and it finally clicked in your head what he thought.
"Hey, um..." You began, your voice deep and soft as you peeked over Ian's brother's head to look at Ian. "I wanted to ask Ian... Um, I mean, you know, I have a question for him."
You tried to keep your voice steady; strong; reliable; A true Griffin.
"Is that all? Go ahead then! Ask away!" Ian's brother said, suddenly a lot less intimidating. He did a little flourishing bow, and Ian chuckled as he looked up at you.
"Sorry. I tried to tell him you weren't here to beat me up, but..." He trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck and averting his gaze.
"No, no. It's okay. I can see why he'd think that." You said, laughing briefly and stepping up to him. You looked down at him, your feathers ruffling a bit as you made eye contact. Ian glanced over at your puffed out wings and you shook them a bit, trying to calm down and get them to lie flat again. "Sorry. That's, um..."
He smoothed down your feather's, his touch gentle. "No, it's okay. They're, um. They're soft."
Ian's brother let out a little squeal, causing you to both turn his way. His hands were pressed together in front of his face, his eyes full of excitement.
"What is it Barley? What's with the face?" Ian asked.
Barley grinned from ear to ear. "This... Is Incredible! Ask him, ask him! I'm dying to hear his response now!"
You gulped, looking back down at Ian as he pulled his hand away from your wings carefully. "Wh-what? I don't know what you're talking about. Haha, your brother's crazy Ian..."
"But you did say you had a question for me." Ian said, and you fiddled with your fingers.
"Um... Yeah, well. I mean... I was wondering." You said, your words halting occasionally as you tried to compose yourself. You were supposed to be some star athlete! You totally had this! You looked him in the eyes, relieved that he didn't flinch under your piercing gaze. "Um, do you wanna... Maybe go to the park later?"
"The park? Sure thing! Who else will be there?" Ian asked, and Barley face palmed.
"Um. Well, I was kinda hoping it'd be a... Well, a date..." You trailed off, looking away. He blinked, a blush spreading across his cheeks as he processed the words. He grinned widely, biting his lip.
"Really? That sounds great! Can't wait to see you there!" He said cheerfully, and Barley fist pumped the air.
"Oh, yeah! My little brother's starting his own, brand new adventure!" He yelled, and Ian blushed brighter.
"Barleeeey!"
